Tip for MoMs with older child - re: keeping them near stroller

If you haven't already- get a big carabiner clip - they sell them as "mommy clips" in BRU - but you can get them even cheaper at Walmart in the hardware section.

I have 2 on my strollers -- one for bags when shopping- and one for Griffin as his "special handle"... he knows when i say "hold your handle" he grabs it and will walk next to the stroller holding it.

He's really good about it- sometimes I want him to STOP holding it- ie) walking up the hill at the zoo, b/c he tends to pull back a bit... and he won't! LOL.  He feels secure when he's holding it-  and knows he's "safe if he's holding it b/c he's right next to mommy".

the Kolcraft comes with 2 child handles - which is what made me think to do this when I sold my Kolcraft.... and this is such a cheap/easy way!

  • I could not agree more! My older girls each have their own little handle on my Kolcraft. I'm not sure if they were designed for that purpose, but they do the trick :)

  • I don't remember seeing anything like that with our Kolcraft, but I rarely use it... haven't thought to look.

Don't know if I can get my girls to "hold their handle" yet, but will keep this tip in mind!

  • Thanks Goldie! Such a good idea...thanks for sharing.
  • This is a great idea! I'm the older sibling of a set of twins and when I was little my mom always had trouble keeping me close. I got hit by a car once crossing the street because I didn't listen when I was supposed to be holding her hand. I didn't get hurt (the car was rolling to a stop) but either way... what a good idea!
  • Great idea and I already have a few laying around the house!

  • I hope I can get my DS to do this! He's starting to reject being in the stroller, so I don't know how much use we'll get out of the toddler seat on the Valco. But he is very independent and not afraid to run off when he doesn't want to go the same direction I do. Maybe if I combine this with his monkey backpack leash as an extra safety precaution.
