Son not really eating-help please

I've notice that the last couple of days my 16month old hasn't really been eating. He does have a cold, but he's never had a problem with appetite. He's on table food and it seems like he just wants to nibble and then turns away and refuses to finish.

I'm not sure if I should be concerned or not. He's still active and happy, except for last night when he was extremely cranky. Has this happened to anyone? What should I do or try to feed him, not sure if maybe it's the cold or hes teething again.

Please help.

  • Advice from my pedi when Trevor pulled this a few weeks ago - our job as parents is to offer healthy foods; their job is to eat it.  If they don't want to eat, but are still getting enough fluids then it's probably just a phase.

  • If he has a cold and it's only been a few days, I wouldn't worry - just keep offering food.  Kiddo has random days where he doesn't eat much too but it always passes.

Okay, thanks. He's turning down all his go to foods, so I'll just keep trying.

  • This happens EVERY time that DD gets a cold or a fever.  It's happening right now actually because she's got a fever from her 1 year vaccinations that she got on Saturday.  I wouldn't worry about it as long as he's taking something solid and is drinking alot of liquids.

Our issue is that DD cuts back on EVERYTHING when she's sick.  Sometimes it's a struggle to get any foor and 8 oz in her the whole day.  For some reason she'll take it from a medicine dropper though Lol!  So obviously if it gets that serious we just do that.  Of course this is after she's already seen the Dr. and we need to keep her hydrated.

  • If he's sick, he might not feel like eating much or food might taste weird.  My LO barely eats when he is sick, but drinks more fluids.

  • DD is getting all 4 molars and has a virus too. She was refusing to eat for 4 days. I even got to the point where I was offering her milkshakes to try to get some calories in her. She even dropped 2 pounds. The pedi said it is ok for her to go 2 weeks without eating before I needed to worry. I totally disagree, but on the flip side DD was drinking 30+ ounces of milk to make up for the food she was not eating. I hope your LO starts to eat again really soon and maybe it is just teeth

  • Hannah's doctor said as long as she's eating 1 1/2 meals a day it's ok. She's on the thicker side but I still worry.  She takes in a lot of fluids though.
