"Reading" the CBEFM sticks

In a previous thread, someone on this board mentioned that they still use the CBEFM sticks but not the monitor. They've learned which is the estrogen line and which is the LH line. I tried it this cycle and think I know which is which but wanted to make sure. Also, even when I got my Low reading (after the Peak) I still saw both of the lines as faint. Are they always there as markers? Or was there just some hormone left in my urine?

I have gone back through all my old posts to see if I can find who said they did that, but I can't find it so I thought I would post here again about it. Thanks in advance!

Re: "Reading" the CBEFM sticks

  • I've never been able to read them, besides the obvious "peak" one where both lines are dark.  My "lows" and "highs" can look almost the same sometimes.

And never have both of the lines been faint for me- they usually always look like an OPK- one is always dark....there are just 2 lines, right?

  • You can read them but it isn't recommended as it is often not very clear and the difference between the two lines can be slight.  Honestly I would either use the CBEFM or OPKs.  I stopped using my CBEFM when we started treatments as it isn't recommended.  I bought the CB digital OPKs to use this cycle and next for our IUI cycle, and the sticks are almost the same, but I will not be attempting to read them outside of the digital machine.

  • Thanks for the insight ladies. I have a love/hate relationship with my monitor, but really I think its my body that is screwing with me. LOL

  • That was me.

The pee end of the stick is the LH. The other is the estrogen. At the beggining of your cycle the estrogen should be dark blue indicating low estrogen. As it builds the line will get lighter indicating your first high reading day. For me I usually get 4 high days then my peak. When both lines are light blue but clearly visable it is my peak and when the LH line is darker than the estrogen line it is ovulation day.

The machine has to read it so I say why can't I? Pee on a stick dot com maybe explains it better than me. Also the she knows board someone posted pictures. It has been a life saver for me because regular opk's just don't do it for me and in the past the monitor would kick me off too soon because I have long cycles. I don't even bother poas until about cd12.
