Boppy or no boppy?

A post got me thinking about the boppy.  It seems like a lot of people (BF and FF) use it.  However, I find that it just gets in the way, I'd much rather hold DS with my forearm and let the rest of him drape on my lap.

Am I the only one who found the boppy to be more trouble?  Is it because I have small boobs or am I just that uncoordinated?

Re: Boppy or no boppy?

  • It's ok for BF'ing for me, but I much more appreciate the My Brest Friend pillow.  I get a much better line up and latch using it, plus I like the back support.

  • I like my Boppy. I usually nurse on one side and pump on the other side so it really helps to keep my daughter supported.

  • The Boppy is how I am typing this message. I like it because it keeps her supported, but let's me have my arms to type or read a book. This has kept my sanity during several cluster feedings.

So.... we're saying I have small boobs AND I'm uncoordinated?  Fair enough. Wink

  • I actually mostly use my boppy for LO to take naps in or to use for tummy/play time. Using the boppy for feeding doesn't work for me because how LO prefers to burp without crying.
  • I love it.  Not only for feedings but DD loves to sit in it and just look around.  I also prop her up in it for tummy time.  Definitely worth the money IMO.

  • I loved my Boppy, for nursing but also for propping LO up.  I actually still use it when he is sitting just to have something around him incase he falls back.

The Boppy is something you either like it or your don't.  IT is kind of personal preference item.

  • Occasionally I will use one for BF of FF but I actually have two (one at home and one at work as I have my DS with me part of the time) and I love them more for the way they wrap around my LO.

DS loves to be held ALL the time and that's not very practical but if I place him in the middle of the boppy it wraps around him and I think he feels like he is still being held.  He is very calm in it and naps in it often.  My LO also spits up quite a bit so having his head elevated on the pillow seems to decrease some of the reflux that he experiences.

  • I don't like it for nursing and I have huge boobs so I don't think the size of your breasts has anything to do with it. I just never found it comfortable--I use it for LO to do tummy time & lay on propped up.

  • We never used it when I was BF, just too awkward.. But now we are FF and DH uses it more than I do for feedings. Mainly its used to prop her up on the couch in our house.

  • We use the Leachco Cuddle U Nursing Pillow.  It came in handy after my c-section (when LO couldn't lie on my lap.)  We use it now for bottle feeding, sleeping, and to prop him up so he can look around.

  • I second the My Brest Friend.  It really has become my brest friend.  It's much easier for nursing a newborn than the Boppy.  I do have a boppy and usually use it to put the baby in while I play with DS1.

  •  I like holding her to nurse.  I like my boppy but not for nursing. LO likes to sit in it and do tummy time sometimes!

This exactly.  I received my money's worth from My Brest Friend within the first day of using it.  It makes breastfeeding so much easier for both of us.

This--though I will add that I use the boppy now that DS has figured out what is going on at the boob. The MyBrestFriend pillow was amazing when I was just learninng and we were uncoordinated...

  • I really like the Boppy for BFing and have also gotten use out of it for tummy time and just for propping DS up while we sit on the couch together.  I should add that at first I needed to put another pillow underneath the Boppy since DS would sit too far beneath my breasts (I am very small chested).

  • Sounds like you use the same BF position as I do. When I discovered this position, I stopped using the boppy. I still use it to put him in when I'm not holding him and he slept in the boppy for the 1st 1-2 months. He tolerated tummy time on the boppy much better than on the floor. We don't go anywhere without the boppy, but I no longer use it to BF.

  • The Boppy has been pretty much useless when it comes to BF'ing.  I do like to put DD in it for a different view.  It is also good for tummy time.

  • We use the boppy to prop DS up while we are getting ready in the morning.  It's also helpful for my parents when the visit. It helps keep DS propped up so my folks can hold him in their arms for longer periods of time.

  • I have small breast too but I co-sleep & I love the boppy for night time feedings in the bed. I think its because I can lean foward comfortably. It doesn't work as well on the couch/recliner & I believe it is because of my small breast. DD loves sitting in it during the day. She likes it better than the swing or bouncy.
