My family is so impractical

So my shower with my family was today. Traditional tea party style. DH is extremely disappointed with the gifts because people spent so much on cute outfits that are so girly and dressy. Think the entire Strasburg Children collection. I understand where he's coming from. I'm not sure how to handle it because I know our son won't wear most of these things but I don't think they can be returned. I also cant be dressing a baby in clothes that need to be specially laundered and ironed. Sigh.

Re: My family is so impractical

  • Oh my! I'm sorry, that does sound very impractical....did they get you hired help to specially launder and iron thos outfits too? ;) Hopefully you did get some things that you need though.

  • Wait....they got your "girl and dressy" outfits for a baby boy?? Are they literally girly or do you just mean they are more on the feminine side boy clothing?

ETA: ETA: Either way, though, that totally stinks. I am a very practical person so I would have been thinking "what the heck"?

No but they did ask if I was getting a nanny. The only useful things came from DHs sister (assortment of different bottles) and my own mother (outfits from Marshalls).
  • Well, he is certainly covered for Easter this year! DH suggested you could Ebay the impractical outfits and use the money to buy clothes he could actually wear. Maybe someone in your family noticed that they were all not everyday clothes and will offer up a receipt?
  • We also received a ton of outfits. What's really *funny* is that when people asked us what we really needed, we said anything BUT clothes because we received so many donated clothes from other people.

Our registry has a couple things bought off it, but not much. Oh well- at least our handsome man can wear four-five outfits a day and we won't have to do laundry. lol

They are definitely boy outfits, but feminine romper type. Google Strasburg children to see the insanity. One or two would have been fine, but they all seemed to have had the same idea.

Yeah, I reread it after I posted and realized I read it wrong.

I just googled it and some of the outfits that came up were quite interesting...hope you didn't get anything like the sailor's one piece! Those clothes are quite expensive as well.

  • Those outfits are pretty crazy! I can see one for like easter, another for pictures. But otherwise when will your son wear those? And why would you put him in those? haha I hope they aren't all white, or are at least stain resistant. If you lived near me id give you some practical things, i have like 3-4 of alot of things!

I totally thought eBay too. :) Seriously Pamela, just choose a couple that you actually like and list the rest of them for sale.

  • YIKES!!!!

You're making me very grateful for my showers and the 3 trillion blankets I received. I don't think I could put a little boy in some of the outfits on that website!

I also 2nd (or 3rd or 4th) the idea to eBay some of them.

  • Wow, those outfits seem very Victorian-era to me... I agree, very impractical. I'm suddenly grateful for the pink overload we got at my shower, at least the clothes are everyday outfits!

    Ebay. I agree.

  • I got a bunch of those from my step MIL and her group of friends when I was pregnant with DS.  He never wore them and I totally got called out for it when I got pregnant with DD.  Step MIL said, "I had a lovely gown handmade for her, I hope you'll actually let her wear it."  I had to politely explain that I like boys to dress like boys and girls to dress like girls.  Luckily, we had a laugh about it.
