Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Hi from 3-6! Transitioning to cow's milk ?

I was hoping you ladies could give me an answer to my question.  I'm just curious and I know this is super early (DS is 5 months), but I was wondering when you started transitioning your LO to cow's milk.  I EP and I have a huge freezer stash.  So I'm just thinking that if I pump until he's 9 months and I have 1000 oz in the freezer, could I transition him to cow's milk as the freezer stash decreases?  I don't even know how much BM he'll be consuming at 9 months, though.  So I don't know how long my stash will last.  Anyway, is it bad to transition LOs to cow's milk around 10 or 11 months?  When did you start the transition?

  • We started at 11mo with my pedi's approval.  At that point, my DS was drinking about 30oz. per day.

  • we tried at 11 months, but it failed miserably. DS ended up having milk issues which sucked, but he outgrew it.

We tried again at 13 months and it went fine. Good luck!

  • 16 months, but I know a lot of people start the transition very slowly at 11 months, so that at 12 months it is all cow's milk. From a retired EPer- good job mama!
  • we completely switched from formula to cows milk at 12mo.

  • At 11m, I started to occasionally mix in 1-2 oz of milk into their formula bottles, but we didn't really transition till right when they turned 1.

    This.

Maybe a week before his actual bday b/c we ran out of formula. We didn't do the slow transition either (mixing formula with milk).

We just went cold turkey to milk and luckily he loved it.

  • We started the transition at a year ...slowly transitioned over a month.  And to answer your question about quantity of milk, DS was (and still is!) a huge drinker and was still drinking between 20-28 oz of milk a day at 10/11 months.

  • We keep trying and LO still doesn't drink it. He's somewhat intolerant to it.
  • I transitioned to cow's milk around 10.5 months, just for sippy cups with meals.  At 10 months, DS refused bottles and BFing during the day.  And he would not drink formula or BM from a cup.  He nursed at night, and I used BM to mix with his cereal and stuff until he was almost a year old.

  • We started the transition right around her birthday and did it slowly over about a month.  By 13 months she was solely on cow's milk.

  • 11.5 months.
  • LO was accidentally given cows milk at 9.5 months by my nephew (he was trying to be a good big cousin and teach her how to drink from a cup). I mentioned this to my pedi and she asked if there was reaction (no). Was given approval to switch her at 10 months. We tried the mixing of formula and milk, but didn't really work. She hated it so we just went straight for the milk. That was also the time she fully stopped using the bottle.

This. It was a gradual mixing of formula/milk for 2 weeks.

  • We started at 11 months mixing a few ounces per day at that time she was taking 32 ounces of milk per day. We were fully switched by 12 months.
