Trying to Get Pregnant

Ovulation Calc. Question

Hi Ladies. I mostly lurk, but I have a question that I assumed y'all may be able to help me with. I've been using FF since that's what all of you recommend and I started my period today (Boo! Not what I had planned, of course!), as FF said I would. Well my next best conception days are the 25th-28th (O-Day) on FF. On other websites, such as First Response, Baby Center & WebMD they all have different best conception days (ex:31st-5th), O-Day & the first day of my period for February.

My question is, whose best conception days do I go by? Would the best thing be to just get an ovulation kit and try that? Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I'm new to all of this and just want to get a better understanding of everything. Thank you!

Re: Ovulation Calc. Question

  • I'd be willing to bet that BabyCenter , WebMD, and FR are going by the typical 28 day cycle and Oing on CD 14.

If you've been using FF for several months you should (hopefully) start to see a pattern as to when you O.  For example, I tend to O around CD 18.  Can you link your chart for us to look at?

  • i think that those dates are a guesstimate of your ovulation.  Did you look at the tutorials on FF?  If you sign up (you can click on my ticker to get the link), then it will keep track of your basal temperatures, cervical mucus, and cervical position for you.  Based on THAT information, you will be able to pinpoint when you ovulate.  Those ovulation calendars just use your cycle length and then have you estimate your luteal phase which you may or may not know.

  • Use an OPK and you won't have to guess.  Amazon.com has a deal for 20 of the digital tests for $30 w/free S&H.

  • If you charted last month, FF will give your "predicted" fertile days based on your historicla data. Other sites are using the assumption that you ovualtion on CD14 or at the 1/2 point in your cycle. Go by FF and look for ovualtion signs, OPK's are good so is checking your CM.

This is actually a good question because a lot of people wonder how to use FF because it only confirms ovulation, but having an idea of what you body does will help you better time sex. Not to mention knowing your average LP will help to know when to test.

  • I agree. Buy the OPK. FF is probably closer to right because, presumably, it uses more of your information to calculate that. However, if your cycles aren't completely consistent, it could be off.
  • Thanks for all the quick replies! I only just began charting this month. I had a D&C at the end of September and I wanted to wait till the beginning of a new and better [My New Year's Resolution is to have a positive outlook on life] year to start trying again. I didn't really even know about charting until we started trying at the beginning of this month, so this is all still new to me. I'm going to try and go the route of ovulation kits. Thank you all so much for your help and I wish all of you ladies nothing but the best!

  • Don't do it!!!!!!! UNLESS you know for sure you have a 28 day cycle and you ovulate on day 14 each and every time (which both are highly unlikely......) Try temping first!
