Trouble TTC

S/O Clomid

Do you generally O earlier, later or about the same time in your cycle on Clomid?  I was on Femara the last two cycles and I O'd over a week early!  That being said, when did your RE have you come in for your first follie check?  Also, I generally have a 14-day lp.  Will mine be even longer than normal?

Re: S/O Clomid

  • I only used clomid once, so I don't have much experience and my experience wasn't a good one.  It did make me O earlier than normal (before clomid I O'd CD 16-20) - in my clomid cycle I O'd on cd 13 or 14.  I only went for monitoring once I got a + OPK and I only had 1 follie and it wasn't even mature, but I O'd anyway (no trigger).  It also extended my LP by one day, from 14 to 15.

Good luck, I hope that clomid works for you!!!

  • This was my first cycle on Clomid.  I normally O around CD 22 or later, and by CD 18, I still hadn't ovulated, so they gave me a trigger shot.  I did an IUI this cycle and it was on CD 20.  My first follie check was on CD 13.  I had another one on CD 18.  I will get back to you on the LP.  I'm 9 dpo right now.

  • I only took Clomid once.  I usually would O between CD22 and CD29.  My one Clomid cycle, I think I O'd on CD16, but that was with a trigger.  My follies were pretty much ready to O by CD14 or CD15 though.  I had my first monitoring on CD12.

Re lengthening your LP, I believe that's a pretty common effect of Clomid, especially if you have shorter LPs to begin with.

  • When you O on Clomid will also depend on the days you take it (CDs 3-7 vs. 5-9). I think they usually say that a 'normal' response is to O 5-10 days after the last dose. On Clomid (CDs 5-9) I O'ed between CDs 14-17. On unmedicated cycles I would O between CDs 16-24.

  • I almost always O on CD 18, but have as late as day 23. I triggered on CD 12 with Clomid and O'd on CD 14. My first monitoring appt was CD 12.

Not sure about my LP; I'm 8dpiui right now :)

  • Thank you girls!  My script says day 3-7 so I guess I'll expect to O on the earlier side.  That's good because if I have a normal 14-day lp this cycle, we will be leaving for a mini-vacay on cd17 of next cycle.  Hopefully I O before then!

  • I took Clomid d.4-8, and had monitoring US on d.12. I normally O on d. 14 or 15, but we triggered on d.12 and did IUI d.13. My LP is usually 13 days, so we'll see what happens this time. I'm 5dpIUI now, so won't know for another 7-10 days.

Sending tons of baby dust your way!  I normally O anywhere from cd18-23 unmedicated.  I'm hoping for an early O so we can get our ducks in a row before we leave.  He talked about doing a trigger with me.  Would that be possible if I don't quite have mature enough follies before we leave?

  • My understanding is that follicles will continue to grow 1-2 mm per day until ovulation. So even after the trigger, they can grow another couple mm. But if you don't have any follies near maturity (I think anything over 18 mm is considered mature for timing of the trigger), you wouldn't release any mature eggs with the trigger. We triggered with a 22 and 18, but also a 17, two 14's and two 13's. She was concerned if we didn't trigger that day, the others would grow and we'd be at high risk for HOM. Hopefully your follies are growing and ready for trigger before you leave! Good luck!

  • I've never O'd on my own. With Clomid, the average has been CD 18. Today is CD 16. I went for a follie check yesterday on CD 15 (it was at 18mm) and will be going again tomorrow on CD 17. My RE said it usually grows about 1mm a day. We'll see how long my LP will be, as it usually fluctuates.

ETA: I took Clomid on days 5-9
