What are your plans for 2 yr party?

I'm already thinking of ideas for his 2 year party. I like to at least get a head start. I just don't know how to "top" his circus party from last year, I loved it! I wish we had a pool, I'm picturing a cute invite with a boy with goggles on and an orange and white polka dotted tube around his waist and flippers on his feet~an aqua, orange and white theme.. What ideas do you have so far? (I know there are some other early party planners out there)

Re: What are your plans for 2 yr party?

  • Since we did a big party last year I think we're just goint to do something with our family that is in town this year. Last year was really expensive and I don't want DD growing up and expecting more and more each year.  I'm planning on doing another bigger one maybe when she turns 3 and again at 5 or 6. We'll skip every few years for the big parties if I can get away with it.

I loved having the big party and it was so much fun, but realistically it took a lot of planning and $!

  • We did a rubber duchy theme last year which I loved. This year we are doing "The Count" since DS loves the Count from Sesame Street.

  • we didn't have a giant first b-day party (small apt. in the winter time) but we are going to downsize even more for this year.  just a few family members and a few friends.  money is tight right now and I know he won't know the difference.  I think next year he will "get it" more and i'd rather save the $$ for then.

  • We also did the huge party last year and going pretty small this year.  Only our parents, grandparents, siblings and a few close freinds will be invited.  That does include plenty of kids though.  I will pick a theme, not sure what yet though.  He is really into Toy Story so far, so maybe that.  I will go all out with decorating and we will have dinner at our house (if we move by then).  I will be 8 1/2-9 months pregnant then, we will be having the party a little early so I'm not in labor (hopefully).  I love planning the parties and decorating so hopefully I am not too tired to do so!

  • We are possibly moving out of state right around DD's 2nd birthday, so I'm keeping that in mind as I'm planning. If that ends up happening, we may have to have it at another location that will impact how much we can spend on the food, decorations, favors, etc, as well as how many people we can invite (I have a big family!)

I have been thinking of themes though. I was considering a safari theme, but my friend is doing that for her LO so I don't want to copy :) I'm also thinking of under the sea because DD loves the aquarium and fish. She also loves books, so I'm also thinking of a storybook theme, or maybe using a certain author and going from there (she LOVES Sandra Boynton books!) If we do a book theme, I might do a book exchange vs gifts (especially if we're moving... she got so much last year and I can't imagine having to pack all that up at the last minute!!) We did cupcakes last year and lucked out by finding a ton of stuff in the Target dollar section. I get overwhelmed with planning (but I love it!) so I will definitely be starting early!!

This.  We had a huge blow-out party last year, so we're going to do it small & casual this year.  DS loves construction trucks & things like that, so we'll probably do this theme:

The only thing I'll probably splurge on is getting a really fun & delicious dump truck cake made.

  • No big party for DS this year.  We'll wait until he's old enough to care and old enough for real friends before we do anything on a large scale again.  We're planning on doing something special with him the weekend of his b-day like the zoo or an aquarium.

I'm a little bummed because I love party planning but realistically it's better for us to spend $ in other ways for now.
