TTC After a Loss 6 Months+

Injectible Ladies

Did you have to do a class?  Did you go to your RE's office for the class?

Here's my issue:  Thanks to prometrium, AF should show Sunday or Monday.  I'm suppose to call in for information and final plans then.  However, I have Monday off and would really like to go in Monday for class if that is what is needed.  I've only been at my job for 3 months and have already taken one day off to go to the RE.  I live 2 1/2 - 3 hrs away from the RE, so I have to take a full day off, there doesn't seem to be a way around that.  WWYD?

Re: Injectible Ladies

  • I only did injections for my ivf cycles and I had to take a class with dh at the RE. They only offered the class on certain days. Hope your RE can get you in Monday.

  • Mine just set up a time with the nurse after my CD3 u/s to go over how to do the injections.  Maybe took 15 minutes or so.  Do you have to go in for a cd 2 or 3 u/s anyways?

Hmm, good question.  I don't know.

  • I only had to go to a class for my IVF. When I was just doing follistim and ovidril, they just showed me quick in the office. There are videos at freedom fertility that I found really helpful.

  • I didn't have to take a class, they just showed me how to do it. The lesson couldn't have lasted more than 45 seconds. If you're using a pen injector thingy, it's even easier. Youtube could probably cover it for you :)
  • I wonder if they could squeeze you in and give you a quick/personal tutorial if you explain the work situation...

    Good luck!!!

  • My nurse just showed me how to do it after my CD3 appointment, also.  Took about 5 or 10 minutes.

  • For my regular injects cycle (follistim and ovridel) I just watched the videos online, in fact my RE told me to look some up on youtube.  I do have to take a class for my IVF cycle though.

The follistim pen was super easy and I would bet most others are the same.  The ovridel was easy too - I actually watched the video a couple times and then took my laptop in the bathroom and played the video as I did the shot to be sure I was doing it right - lol.

    Good luck!!

  • our "class" consisted of me and DH sitting in a room with the nurse for 3 minutes while she showed us how to use the needles/injects. she then handed us a DVD that was more explanatory, and I found you tube videos that were more helpful. I would ask if you could just get a phone consult and the DVD.

  • i just found out i have to do injections and they showed me how to do it in the office when i was there today.  it took about 5-10min for her to show me how to do it.  never knew there was an explanation on the net so i think i'll check that out before my first shot tonight.

Hopefully someone can show you quickly in the office when your there next.

  • I would def call today.  Couldn't hurt, right?
  • My RE has online classes so once I started my injectable cycle that module opened up. It had videos by the nurses and links to the videos GuppyAmy gave you. It was pretty simple. There's no harm in calling today to find out if you will need to go in for a class and if they are only offered at certain times. You could always tell them that you have conflicts with work and hopefully they can work with you. My RE is usually pretty flexible about fitting me in around my work schedule.

  • Thanks ladies.  I'm hoping that they'll just let me look at the videos, I think I remember them saying something to that effect now that you mention it.

  • I would think they will definitely make you come in on CD2 or 3 for a baseline u/s and b/w so hopefully the nurse can give you a quick lesson then.  The Freedom Fertility videos are really helpful too.  Good luck!

  • I did a "class" at the RE's office. Pretty much, it was 20 minutes os DH and I with the nurse, and she went over everything, and gave us a "take away" sheet that had helpful tips and online videos in case we needed a refresher later on.

It was my RE's policy that I had to attend a "class" before I could do injectables. You may want to see if your RE has a similar policy, as that may make the decision for you.

    Good luck!
