New RE. Polyp removal and question!

So I found another RE (last one was a nightmare, and thanks for all those who supported me with their kind words...I took your advise and found one though a recommendation from a friend). I was freaked out by the last one, so I was not super prepared to ask all the right questions.  She did some blood work and did some explaining and reaffirmed (my OB/GYN had already told me this) that I did have a polyp that needed to be removed (i got really distracted by this because it looked really large on the sonogram screen), and that my endometrial lining was too thick (around 17).  I wanted to see if anyone else here has had a similar issue.  I have scheduled an appointment with my OB/GYN to have the polyp removed in her office (next week), but was wondering if I should do it with the RE. I just don't want to wait because it might get larger (it looked larger than when I had seen it at my OB's office).

I also wanted to know what you did next (i am new to this and don't know where to look for the next step).  Any advise from you wonderful ladies who have been through this would be great.

Re: New RE. Polyp removal and question!

  • I don't have any experiances with a thick lining but I had a huge polyp ( it was totaly consuming my ute) removed in November. If the OB plans on removing it the same way the RE would, I would say get it removed ASAP. If the RE plans on knocking you out for it vs/ the OB just giving you a local anesthesia, I would say wait for the RE. I know that everyone has a different pain thresh-hold but it was awful for me ( just had it done with valium & a local). it may have also been the size of it taht made it so painful. Or, you could have the OB try to go it in office as long as (s)he has the understanding to stop if it gets to be too much.

  • When you say that your OB/GYN will do it in her office, I'm assuming that means you'll be awake.  Like PP, I advise not to do that and wait for the RE.  My OB did a D&C in a surgery center to remove my polyp, and it was easy peasy for me.  The worst part was getting the IV and being nauseous after the anesthesia.  Surgery is a little unsettling even if it's outpatient, but Mrs.Mo's experience sounded terrible and I'm really glad I was out for my polyp removal.

I don't have any advice on the lining, but it would make sense to me that a D&C (where they also do a scraping of your uterine lining) might alleviate that problem as well.  I would ask your RE if that's the case.

Good luck!  I'm glad you had a better experience with your second RE.  Good for you for getting a second opinion!

  • thanks for your help!

I told the RE that I had it scheduled with my OB. She taught that it was fine to do it with her . She also told me that I would prefer to do it with her, she will do it at the hospital where she delivers, but I would probably have to wait longer. Even a blood test for my DH is schedule 2 weeks away!

My Ob. said she has done it in office before for others and she is bringing in anestisialogist to put me out. But now that I think about it is that dangerous to not do that at the hospital? I just want to get it over with as soon as possible so I can go on with the other things. I am going to call her office and see how often she does this procedure in her office and the complications associated with it.

If she has an anesthesiologist there to put you out, then I wouldn't worry about this.  She/he won't put you under without proper monitoring equipment to keep tabs on what your heart and lungs are doing while you're asleep.
