Target ?

Does anybody know Target's return policy? I bought DD some shoes and they don't fit and I cannot find the receipt anywhere :(  I just want to exchange for a bigger size (hopefully they have the bigger size if not then a bigger size in the other color) Will they let me do this? TIA

Re: Target ?

  • If you bought them on your debit or credit card they can look it up and confirm the purchase and price. Good luck! =)

  • Did you pay with a CC (or possibly check)? If so, they should be able to look it up in their system. Otherwise, it tends to depend on the person working.

I've heard that Target will take a certain number of non-receipt returns per year per person, sometimes under a certain dollar amount (I've heard $20 a few times). They do it under your license, and once you hit your quote you're SOL in the future. However, some workers/stores won't do this, and others are more lenient and will let you return more or will let you do an even exchange without a receipt.

Under normal circumstances IME, no receipt, no return or exchange. Target is incredibly draconian in their return policies, probably the worst store I've ever encountered. I've never even attempted to return something without a receipt because they're so bad.

  • I've returned stuff without a receipt, but I bought it with my Target card so they could look up my purchase.  If you paid cash, you might not be so lucky.
  • I posted before how Target wouldn't let me exchnge sizes w/o a receipt and that was my first time doing so. However at our other Target, my mom was able to. I think it's the luck of the draw. I'm glad I have a Target card now so I don't have to worry about the receipt anymore:)

Agreed. I've been victim to the $20 max thing. Ridiculous. I ALWAYS use the same credit card at Target so that I can confidently toss my receipt knowing they can look it up in their system.

  • i hate targets return policy now. they wont take anything over $30 w/o a receipt or proof of purchase. if you get anything as a gift w/o a receipt, then your SOL if you need to return it. its horrid.

the only thing i do like is that they can look up your purchase with your credit/debit card which i almost always use.

  • I wish I would have used my credit card but I paid cash. I will just have to hope that the person at customer service is nice and just lets me exchange for a size bigger. (thats all I want to do) Thanks ladies!

  • I actually used to work at Target in the CS department. If you paid with a debit card, credit card, or check, bring that card or your check book with you and they will be able to look up the purchase and do a full return, no recepit necessary, there is no limit to how many times per year you can do this.

If you paid cash, you must have the receipt, if not you are allowed 3 (it was three 5 years ago when I worke there, I'm not sure if it's still the same) returns a year, but (if I remember correctly) they will nly refund the current purchase price, so if the shoes have been discounted, then you only get the discount price, that sucks.
