How long are your Pedi appointments?

Rather, how long do you wait in a waiting room and how long do you wait in between the nurse leaving in and the doctor coming in? And for shots?

I am so $@!&$ing annoyed. I already said I was leaving my Pedi and I should have just done it already, but I didn't want her one year appointment to be somewhere new. Well... I am leaving them now.

Total time in the building: one hour and twenty minutes. The majority of that time was in the waiting room. We had to wait forever from the time we saw the doctor until she had her shots. She was in meltdown by then.

Am I crazy, or is that too freaking long?!?!

  • Nope, that is way too long for our little kiddos to wait!

  • IMO, there shouldn't be a long wait between the Dr and shots.  They should already know you are there for shots so the nurse should just be waiting for the final go ahead from the Dr.   The wait for a well check up is never that long for us.  At Ts appt last week, we were in and out in 45 minutes.

  • That is WAY too long.  Usually I'm there for around 5 minutes in the waiting room--if I arrive early as requested--and then the nurse does the initial stats (height, weight) and the doctor comes in a few minutes later (no more than 5).  Aaron's last two well visits were both around 1/2 hour total from the time we got there until the time we left.

Sometimes the wait is slightly longer if a prior patient has taken more time. My ped group is really good with giving the child a lot of attention and answering parents' questions.

  • We went yesterday-

5 minutes in the waiting room

5 minutes between the nurse and doctor

5 minutes between doctor and shots.

We were in and out in less than 30 minutes.

  • We love our pedi.  We get called in almost immediately after we check in and then we wait no longer than 5 minutes between the nurse and when the doc walks in.  I love this office because they spend ample time with you...never rush out of there.

Sorry about your pedi.  As a busy mother, that's too much time wasted.

  • We see a GP, actually my GP.  She does rounds in the morning at the local hospital so if we have a morning appointment we wait.  However, if we have an afternoon appointment then we wait maybe 10-15 minutes and then another 10 in the office.  That is ok because Michael likes to play with the paper on the table.

  • way too long.  There was once when I had to wait about 1 hr but that was due to there being an ER bone break and the doc had to help set it and treat it.  The nurses informed us of the situation though and apologized so it wasn't a big deal (and I was well prepared with snacks and such).  But never without an excuse or reason.  We usually don't have to wait that long -- maybe 5-10 minutes in the waiting room (usually 5 or less) and then another 5-10 in the exam room for the dr to appear.  For shots, it's about 5 minutes or less before the nurse appears and that time is for her to get the shots together.

  • I think that's too long.  For our visits, the time can be variable - our pedi practices at a teaching institution so we may have to see a resident before she comes in - if so, our visit length really depends on the resident's level of experience, and this can increase our visit from say 30ish minutes to an hour.  I chose this pedi and I love her and I can deal with a few residents here and there, especially since I feel they're getting a great education.

However, we've never waited more than 5 min in the lobby or between seeing the nurse and MD or for shots at a well child visit (waited longer at a sick visit when we knew that they had totally squeezed us in and that's OK).  Now in all fairness, these are people I know, work with and drink with, so....

  • That's too long.   We usually wait less than 5 minutes before going to a room. Then about 5 minutes until the pedi come in and then usually less than 5 minutes before a nurse comes in with the shots.

One time it took longer but the pedi apologized because he had a med student there that day.

  • Yeah, that's what I thought. This is the third time we have been there over an hour. Sydney just wasn't having it today... and neither was I. Went though my whole bag of tricks in the waiting room (juice, snack, toy, book).

And... I don't even know her weight and length. They didn't write it down for me like the usually do. Or tell me. I mean, I saw her weight (20.6lbs) but that's it. AND... not that it's a HUGE deal, but I always have my vaccination card with me and they didn't ask for it so her shots didn't get recorded on my card. Grrr... (Hope that's not an issue).

So, I just called them and left a message for her weight and length. And now I am calling the new place to make her next well appointment.

  • That's too long IMO.  Usually, we are in the waiting room for 5 - 10 minutes.  The nurse immediately takes S's stats and then we wait maybe 10 - 15 minutes for the doctor to come in.  Then we wait for about 5 minutes between the doctor and the nurse for shots.

The doctor is really good about staying and answering all of my questions without making me feel rushed.  Sometimes that's the longest part - my fault totally.
