what do you think when you hear the name Blaine?

hi, would love your thoughts and feelings on the girls name Blaine? It is my maiden name and flows well with my married name but would love others thoughts on it... does it sound too boyish? would you hate it to be your name? I grew up being called blaine by friends, or blainey... so she could always be called lainey too if she liked it..

just wondering others thoughts, i know the last name first name or boys names on girls trend is a bit annoying but I didnt know if Blaine would be considered less common and more acceptable than say.. Emerson or Avery or, Elliot, Dylan, Riley and Ryans. or do you hate it just the same?

Blaine is a boy's name AND a surname. Hella trendy if you ask me. I think of David Blaine, and both of the male Blaines I grew up with. I would never saddle a girl with that name.

It's a boy's name. I have a professor whose first name is Blaine. I also think of David Blaine. Yes, I hate it on a little girl. Wait to use it on a son, IMO, if you're so stuck on using it.

Blaine from Sixteen Candles....which was a boy in that movie. I do know a girl with that name. Definately don't like blainey as a nickname for the first name.

It is NMS for a boy or a girl but I agree with the others that I would think the child was a boy if told that first name alone.

thanks for the feedback, i had a feeling that most people wouldnt care for it. I tend to like older classic names myself for girls and boys (we have a boys name that we know we will use for sure and its a classic name) but for some reason i was liking Blaine.. I wasnt sure if it was just because I grew up being called Blaine so I am used to it, so hearing others thoughts is much appreciated.

Blaine is also my maiden name and I know both a girl and a boy named Blaine/Blayne so it is not weird for me that someone would name a girl Blaine. Personally, since other people in my family still have that LN name I would never use it as a FN. I see absolutely no problem in using it as a MN though (I actually plan to do this). Most people though will definitely only see it as a boy name, which traditionally it is.

OP: There was a thread about this a couple of days ago. The consensus was that it's a boy name and it remind a lot of posters of Pretty in Pink.

Blaine is my cousin's name.

I like it, but we've grown up together so I've heard it as a first name all my life. He is a boy, if that helps.

I was one who said "pretty in pink," and I mainly think of a boy's name.

That said, I like the tie to your maiden name, so I think it might be a pretty cool name for a girl anyhow.

i am one of the apparently few people that like boy names for girls. i have a neice named landyn and i've never met another girl with that name. at first i didn't know if it was right, but now i can't imagine her having any other name. in my opinion, if you like it--go with it! once she's born, people won't be able to see her as anything else.

actually, blake (which is similar) is our girls name if we ever have one.

Blaine was the jerk in "Pretty in Pink". The guy in 16 Candles was Jake Ryan (Swoon !)
