Hi. I am new here. 38. Trying to conceive my first and dh first child. Feeling frustrated that it is so hard to conceive a child. I hate it that friends can look at a baby and be pregnant. We have been trying for 5 months now. I found out after the first few months that the lubrication was killing the sperm. Wish I would have known that earlier. So bought pre seed and tried it for the first time this month. Hopefully that will work. I am willing to try anything. Any advice? What works and what doesn't? I am glad to find a board here for TTC after 35. I was starting to wonder if I was all alone.
Re: Introducing myself
Hi, HopinginMN. I'm 37 and will be 38 in April, and my husband and I are also trying for our first. This has been our first cycle TTC, so I do not know whether we will have any issues, but I am prepared for this to take a little time considering that I am of an "advanced maternal age" (ugh - hate that!).
Are you charting your temps? If you haven't, consider joining "Fertility Friend" (just hit the link in my signature for my Ovulation Chart, and it will take you there.) If you have not done so yet, the women here also highly recommend reading Taking Charge of Your Fertility - it is a great book that really teaches you what to expect of your body and how to maximize your opportunities to conceive.
The ladies here are great - keep posting, and good luck to you!
I really suggest that you pick up a copy of Taking Charge of Your Fertility, if you haven't already. There are other signs besides BBT you can look to (like cervical mucus) that indicate that ovulation is imminent, and that book can help you read those signs so that you can better time intercourse. Also, temping and recording your signs can help you determine your ovulation pattern so that if you do want some external help from reproduction specialists, you don't have to spend another two or three months collecting data - you already have it and can get going right away. That's why I plan on charting as long as I am TTC - I don't have the luxury of time anymore.
In terms of OPKs, I have chosen to use the Clear Blue Easy Fertility Monitor. But it really has helped me detect my LH surges in order to better predict ovulation. It's pricey, but I figure that if I'm willing to sink hundreds of thousands of dollars into a kid over his/her lifetime, I can surely spring for a $200 monitor to get the kid in the first place.
Good luck!
Welcome to the board! I'm also TTC for #1 and on my 7th cycle. Just started seeing an RE to see if there is anything blatant to blame on not getting pregnant. I wanted to comment on the OPK. Are you testing 2x a day? I have a short surge--meaning if I only tested once per day, I'd miss it. It seems better to test in the afternoon and evening versus first thing in the morning. I buy cheap OPK on Amazon and when it looks like it is positive, I'd confirm with a CBE digital.
I feel the same about how everything is reversed now with trying to get pregnant! I think my health class teacher lied to me as it isn't easy getting pregnant...
Good luck:-)

I had no idea that you should test twice a day. I thought once a day would be more than enough. I suppose a CBE digital would be more easy then the wonderful sticks.
What are the first things a doctor looks at when you visit the clinic? I have an appt. on the 19th with a ob/gyn. Wondering what he will suggest?
9/10 and 1/11 Normal blood work
