  I was sent home at 3 cm with DS too.  They gave me something to "help me sleep" - it did nothing. I was awake that whole night with contractions. I was checked in the next morning at 8 AM when I was at a "good 4" (whatever that means).  After that, I labored for a while in the hospital, then was given an epidural, had my water broken, progressed throughout the day and had him at 6:44 PM.

  OK thank you..at least I have some hope she is coming soon. I am going to try to walk around today to see if that helps out any.

  Good idea! I did a lot of walking that day. My husband would get me off the couch every hour and I would do a few "laps" around the yard - laying down every few minutes while I had a contraction.  Good luck!

  I *think* the rule of thumb is a 4 or higher gets you admitted, but I can't remember where I read that.

  I think it kind of depends on the hospital. Mine would keep you at 4. Luckily, I was already 7 when I went in, so I didn't get sent home.

  Walking helped me a lot. I also had a yoga ball I bounced on and I really think it helped. Good luck!!

  I was sent home with DD at 3cm. I wouldnt budge so they gave me an Ambien and told me to go rest.2 hours later my water broke. I still never budged from 3cm. They had to induce me after a couple of hours.

  I was only 1.5 cm when I was admitted with DD (water had broken though). I got my epidural at 3cm and DD was born 4 hours later. So I guess I have no idea what it takes to get admitted!

  When my sister had her older three kids, 3cm got you an admittance.

  Now, when I have had my two kids my water was broken before I got there. When I went in with ds, it broke at the office and my doctor called ahead so I just had to wait for a room. When I went in with dd, I could not believe how much they had quizzed me on why I thought my water had broke. Our thought was, "if you don't believe me then check for yourself." Sure enough, they had me just put my legs up and they told me to cough.... they saw the fluid coming out so I got to stay but I reallly got the third degree about it.

  I was chatting with the doctor last week and she said they don't really like to keep you until you are 4cm. If they aren't too busy, you might get a doctor to keep you at 3cm but it depends who is on call.

  3-4cm and changing. People can walk around at 3cm for weeks so if you're just hanging out at 3cm but not progressing, they'll send you home. You wouldn't want them to keep you if you're not changing so I would be thankful to go home, and be surrounded by my own things and allowed to eat and drink, etc.

  Definitely depends on the hospital. Ours will admit you if a.) your water has broken, regardless of dilation, or b.) you are having contractions 5 mins apart, also regardless of dilation.
