This is a place for any of you who are
experiencing the world of azoospermia. Whether you were recently
diagnosed and are trying to make sense of it all, or you have started
preparing for IVF or IUI, or have decided instead to move on to
adoption. Please join in the group by posting! Check in is on
Thursdays. Learning that the
chances of having a biological child with your husband are slim to none
is not easy, and is, frankly, devastating news. This check in is a
place where we can share how we are coping (or not) with our new
realities, provide information we've learned through investigating our
options, adjusting our lifelong dreams and plans, and dealing with the
situation. I'd like to extend an invitation to
those who have been fortunate enough to experience pregnancy,
childbirth, and/or adoption. Ultimately, all of us desire to create a
family. The experiences and insight of those who have reached that goal
will be quite helpful to those of us on that road. AZOO SUCCESS STORIES!

Re: ~~ZERO SPERM / AZOOSPERMIA CHECK IN~~
Question of the Week:
What is your best advice for someone dealing with their first zero SA?
Head to a uro that specializes in IF right away. Try to stay calm and take things one step at a time because if you try to do it all at once it can become completely overwhelming.
For those using DS:
Will you register your children on donorsiblingregistry.com so that your children can find their half siblings?
At this time I don't think we will. We see a host of issues by inviting strangers into our lives and once that door is open you can't shut it again. Maybe we'll change our mind later though or maybe our child will want to register and in that case we would support them 100%.
Does your cryobank require you to report pregnancies/live births?
Yes, California Cryobank requires that you report both the pregnancy and live birth. However, when I asked about this they said they can only enforce it so much and they know that they don't get everyone.
ETA: Based on my last check our donor has 6 reported pregnancies (incl. us), but no live births yet. He was a new donor when we choose him and from what I can tell all 6 of us are PG right now, although some must be getting close to birth. Normally I think CACryo cuts off a donor at 10 births, but our donor has retired from the program so it is a non issue.

DS-IUI #1-4 BFN IVF #1 - BFP! It's a boy!!!
nothing new here, I've totally dropped the ball on IF related things. I really have to get my butt in gear but we've been crazy busy lately.
QOTW: My best advice is to be aggressive in demanding answers and testing to find out why. Find a highly recommended urologist that specializes in MFI and run, not walk, to him/her. We wasted time and money seeing a regular urologist before moving on. Getting that second opinion made all the difference in our chances for a biological child. Also, give your H space to deal with it on his own, let him know you are there but let him come to you. I pushed my H and really regret it now.

Yellow Daisy- I LOVE YOUR PICTURE!!! Yay!!!
Update-in the dreaded 2ww. I some how ovulated before we could do the IUI. I am not expecting much. The timing definitely wasn't the best this time, and we *still* only had 1 follie. We are moving on to injects if this one doesn't work!
What is your best advice for someone dealing with their first zero SA?
We are not at zero-but we have zero motile. And I agree-make sure you see someone who specializes in MFI. We were lucky we got into our Uro quickly.
Will you register your children on donorsiblingregistry.com so that your children can find their half siblings?
At this point, I don't think so. We aren't sure we will be telling our kids. We figure we'll cross that bridge if/when this works.
Does your cryobank require you to report pregnancies/live births?
It does-in hopes to keep the number of families/offspring to an appropriate amount.
Thank you Yellow Daisy for doing this!!!!
YelloD-LOVE the new siggy pic! Are you planning to find out the sex?
Update-ER was today, 11 eggs retrieved, can't wait till tomorrow to see how things are going. Will find out if we're doing a 3 or 5 day transfer hopefully Saturday.
Question of the Week:What is your best advice for someone dealing with their first zero SA? Definitely see a Urologist right away and try to become as informed as possible. There's lots of info and support groups online.
For those using DS:
Will you register your children on donorsiblingregistry.com so that your children can find their half siblings? Yes, in fact we already have. I have been contacted by several ladies regarding them using the donor and wanting to see pics of DS.
Does your cryobank require you to report pregnancies/live births? Yes, but I don't think everyone does. We do know that at this time that there are 4 children conceived form this donor, all boys. DS is the first. And none of them are on the DSR.
Update: DH is healing up well from his surgeries. He has a follow-up appt. next week. Other than that, nothing ne to report!
QOTW: I'm not sure what to say except for take the time to grieve then put a plan in action! Definately find a Uro who specializes in MFI!!! Ask lots and lots of questions and write them down! You will most likely not understand all of the information that is going to be thrown at you right away. Eventually it will all start to make more sense. However, it will NEVER be fair!! IF sucks!! For me my first priority was my marriage! I told myself that no matter what happened I wanted to make sure my DH and I remained as close as we are! This is such a stressfull time for both of us and my biggest fear was that it would break us down. Although we've had huge disagreements, we've remained best friends which is the most important thing you can do!
Sorry for all the rambling....... hope this helps someone
Yes we are definitely going to find out the sex. I actually called an elective place today to see when we could do it and they said as early as next Wed. I have an OB appt on Monday and will see when he schedules my anatomy scan before I make an appt. with the elective place.
Congrats on 11 eggs that is great news! I will be keeping an eye out for your fert report tomorrow.

DS-IUI #1-4 BFN IVF #1 - BFP! It's a boy!!!
Hi! It's been a long time since I checked in, I just didn't respond because nothing new was going on with me. But that has changed - we went for a consult with a different RE last Thursday, 1/6, and they discovered during the examination that I was about to ovulate. Within the span of about 6 hours, I had triggered, DH & I searched for, picked, and ordered DS, and we scheduled my first IUI. So IUI #1 was on 1/9, and I go for b/w on 1/22!
QOTW: don't panic, don't take everything you read at face value, and go see a urologist. And talk to your husband. Sometimes they don't want to let on that they're hurting as bad as they are.
For those using DS:
Will you register your children on donorsiblingregistry.com so that your children can find their half siblings?
I doubt it. My husband wants to keep everything anonymous
Does your cryobank require you to report pregnancies/live births?
I don't know! Everything with our IUI happened so fast. This is something we apparently need to find out...

Holy cow! What a whirlwind! Good luck with the 2ww I hope this is it for you.
Definitely call your bank and ask about reporting pregnancies. If they do require it you can also ask how many pregnancies and live births your donor has had. I know CA Cryo will give you that info.

Update: Unfortunately, our RE appointment got rescheduled. The doctor had an emergency come up. So we're going at the end of the month now instead. (January 28th). The clinic was very apologetic. I am a little disappointed, just because it is driving me crazy and I just want to get the tests rolling, but I completely understand!
What is your best advice for someone dealing with their first zero SA?
Ask your gyno or RE for the name of a good urologist who handles male infertility. The other thing I would say is just be supportive of your partner. This is likely to really upset him. I know my husband felt like less of a man because he found out he had no sperm. So, just pay attention to how he is acting/feeling. He may not even be able to put into words what he is feeling. If possible, maybe get him in with a counselor.

Question of the Week:
What is your best advice for someone dealing with their first zero SA?
Try to not freak out. It is shocking and you may feel like all your dreams are flushing down the toilet but there are amazing Dr's out there that can help. Get to a Uro that specializes in MFI and do repeat SA and additional testing. Make sure to do research and ask lots of questions. Be there for each other and give each other time to process.
For those using DS:
Will you register your children on donorsiblingregistry.com so that your children can find their half siblings?
I most likely will not but will or will support my children if they want to in the future. As of now there is no one registered on the site for my donor.
Does your cryobank require you to report pregnancies/live births?
Yes, it does. As of now my donor has 1 live birth. He is retired from the program.

Did you ask when your ordered? I never asked-and now I'm wondering if they are going to look at me funny if I call about it!
no, i just asked last week about the proven births (trying to figure out why I keep m/c'ing and wanted to see if he was proven) and when i had initial phone meeting with cryobank they told me he was retired (and a dr. and a great guy).
