We aren't doing a big party, theme or anything like that (maybe just something easy/simple like flowers or bright colors) for Lydia's birthday. It'll just be family, us and her godparents. I'm not doing invites or anything (I don't think). I may not have a job and I'd rather put money towards savings or her savings.
Am I awful since everyone seems to do some big shindig?!!!?
Re: am I awful, am I the only one?!!?!?
this exactly...
I totally agree with this!
You're not awful at all! I'm not big on judgment of other's choices unless you're putting a child in danger and you're clearly not doing that.
I'm sure the celebration will be really nice and while she want remember it, she'll have pictures to look back on and say "thanks for doing that Mommy!!"
TOTALLY my thoughts too Amelia.
Thanks ladies, I just felt like what Amelia said, she won't remember it, we don't have the money and I'd rather have what we can save go towards her later in life.
ahhhhh........
and I totally am NOT judging those that have big parties (shindigs as I said, ha) as it's a personal preference.
No! It's not like they are going to really even remember the party anyways.
For DD's first, I did a lot as far as invitations, food, etc... but ultimately the party was all family and a few very close friends and we had it at a family lakehouse. Ultimately for her first few birthday parties it's going to be for mostly family for us.

me too. I just can't fathom spending the money on all of that when she won't even remember. Whether it's elaborate or simple as long as we take pics and such that's all that matters - those memories that we can show her later.
We won't have anything elaborate for a while - like Lydia it's just be mostly family.
Nope, not awful.
I don't understand huge themed birthday parties for babies (or really even at all other than big milestone birthdays, and even then I'm more inclined to save the money). We had dinner (build your own tacos, burritos, etc) for our families and close friends followed by cake and ice cream. That's it.
I did send invitations, but only because I realized all of her monthly pictures would be cute on one invite and I wanted something for her baby book.
