Hi Ladies,
I'm a great lurker, but terrible poster. DH and I have our first RE visit in about two weeks. After ten months of no natural period (had two post-provera ones), I'm really looking forward to hopefully getting some answers. How long was your first RE appointment? Any thoughts on what to expect?
Re: what to expect at first RE visit
I lurk on here sometimes, but haven't posted yet. I had my first RE appointment this morning and it only lasted 30-45 minutes. It's been some time since I've had a period, so after first having me take a pregnancy test to make sure I'm not pregnant (which I knew I wasn't), I was prescribed provera. Once I get my period, I am going to call the office to get my HSG, bloodwork, and ultrasound scheduled. In the meantime, DH received the information he needed to get an S/A done, which he is having done this week. And that was pretty much it. My RE gave us a generic rundown of the reproductive process, and what is needed to achieve a pregnancy, but I did not receive any sort of exam.
I've heard of other women having a full exam with the first appointment, so that's not to say that my experience was the "norm" but most likely, they'll just go over your history (if you haven't already provided that information), and give you a plan for the tests they want to do, and possibly an exam. Best of luck with your appointment!
My first RE appt was about 1 hour- dr. initially went over the different places in conception issues can occur, then she took a very long history for me. She did an u/s in her office, then ordered b/w and HSG. We had already had the SA done, so we went over the results and then we briefly went over generic treatments and the success rates. I went back in after all testing was in with DH and that's when we mapped out our plan for treatment. I really felt like my dr. took time and answered all my questions, which was very important to me.
Good luck!
After 2 1/2 years TTC, 3 IUI's, endo, and a lap, a surprise BFP brought us Alexandra Marie!
First off, I want to say, cute pic in your siggy! I like those shoes with the shoelaces in a heart.
Our first RE appt was about an hour to an hour and a half long. They went over our medical histories, and discussed the tests they wanted us to do (b/w and HSG for me, SA for DH). I also had an u/s which indicated a blocked tube, so at the end of that 1st appt we had already had a possible diagnosis - which was confirmed through later tests. Best of luck to you!
My first RE appointment we went over my healthy history and my DH's (he wasn't there but we'd filled out paperwork beforehand). Then they did a normal exam (blood pressure, temperature, etc.), an u/s to check my ovaries and uterus and b/w to make sure I wasn't pregnant (I'm like you with AF - I get it maybe every 6 months on my own).
Then we discussed our next step, which was to do the S/A, get me on Provera to get AF, then do CD3 b/w and an HSG. I was in there less than an hour.
Good luck!
Our initial appointment was a little over an hour in length. Our RE went over our previous treatments with another doctor, scheduled DH's consultation with a urologist, went over our future plan and did a u/s. She answered any questions that we had and really took the time to explain things that hadn't been explained to us before.
Good luck with your appointment!
My first appointment was close to 2 hours, which included some time sitting around since we met with a few people. First we met with the doctor in her office, and she reviewed our medical history forms with us, answered questions, and gave us a general idea of what to expect and what the treatment options are. Then she did a pelvic exam and ultrasound.
After that we met with the IVF/IUI coordinator, who went over the testing and other steps we needed to complete before treatment - this included tests, consent forms that needed to be completed, and injection training.
The third person we met with was the financial coordinator who reviewed our insurance coverage and what the costs would be for us. He also told also we had to get pre-auth from our insurance company for fertility treatments, and who to call, which was helpful.
TTC #1 since 4/10, Dx: MFI IVF planned for April/May
I just started lurking over here and posted a bit over on TTC 35+. My first appt was over 2 hours but it is a pretty busy office, and that includes wait times in between nurses, fellows and the Dr.
I had a long history to fill out, that they went over with me in detail. I had just had a physician assisted 3d ultrasound prior to appt, so they went over that with me as well. They explained what all of my possible issues could be and were not rushed like alot of Dr. appts.
It was decided I needed a lap and a hysteroscopy and went over the whole procedure. I did not have any kind of exam aside from the usual vitals. For me it was more of a discussion, education and planning session, which I found very helpful. Good luck, hope yours goes well!
