Ipecac syrup question

Ladies,

Excuse me if this is a stupid question....

When I used to babysit, most parents told me they had this in the house incase of an emergency poisoning...do people still do that?  Is it something that I should have in the house, I searched online and it looks like there is only 1 kind available most places so I don't know if research has now said not to use it....we obviously keep everything locked up in a cabinet but now that I have a mobile baby it got me thinking.....

thoughts????what do you keep in the house in case of baby emergency??

Thanks!!

Re: Ipecac syrup question

  • All I did was Google ipecac and this was the second result from the National Capital Poison Center: https://www.poison.org/prepared/ipecac.asp

So, no. I definitely would not keep it in the house.

    The DC Nest. Winers welcome.

    thanks for helping out:-)

  • Just to add...Toddler 411 (my baby bible) says the same thing...that you shouldn't keep it in the house, they've changed their mind about it and just always call Poison Control, the ER will have ipecac if that is what is necessary.
