6 Month Nap/Sleep Schedule

I'm still struggling with one of my girls getting up WAY too early. I just bought a white noise machine that will last all night and this morning let her cry for awhile and she ended up falling back asleep until almost 6:30 am.  I'm wondering if I'm letting them sleep too much during the day.  What is your 6 month sleep and nap schedule?

I can't handle her waking up before 5am anymore :(  TIA!

Re: 6 Month Nap/Sleep Schedule

  • Anyone that gets up before 5:45 gets a bottle and goes back to bed in our house! Big Smile

    Wake 6:30-7:30ish

    Nap 9-10:30

    Nap 1-3

    Nap 6-6:30

Bed at 8 (DS2 sttn consistantly, and DS1 does about half the time)

I'm in the "sleep begets sleep" camp.  The only time napping screws with bedtime is if they don't get that last evening nap.  Then they are way too tired, don't finish their last bottle, and wake up hungry.  Otherwise we shoot for 3 naps a day.

  • Ours aren't quite 6 months yet, but we just started dealing with the same thing this week. One or the other has been waking up between 4:30am - 5am and just "talking" and laughing in their crib. Then the other one wakes up and joins in. We don't get up in hopes that they'll just go back to sleep, but so far, that has not happened. They hang out for a half hour to an hour and it eventually turns into crying, then I get up and feed them.  I have to get up for work at 6am as it is and this 4:30 crap is killing me! I'm curious to see responses! Nothing has changed in our schedule and they used to sleep until 6 - 7:30am.

  • My DS started this randomly a few weeks ago.  We started doing the "dream feed" at 10:30 or 11 and now he stretches from down at 630/7pm to wake around 7/730am.  I still notice him waking randomly but it seems like he wakes and is not hungry so he goes back to sleep easily with little fuss!

     Our schedule:

    Wake 7/7:30a

    Nap 9-10a

    Nap 12-2p

    sometimes cat nap around 4:30/5

    Baths 5:30p

    Asleep 6:30/7p

  • my DD sttn almost every night but DS wakes 2-3 times a night. started feeding him at those times. hes just hungry than goes back to bed. but the naps are 9:30-10:30 12-2 than 5:30-6:30 for DD than 6-6:45 for DS. dont ask me why they do that in the evening, but they do. and sometimes the afternoon nap one will sleep for about an hour before the other joins than wake up 30 min after the 1st falls asleep. sounds crazy and confusing b ut thats what they set for thermselves. mine wake up between 6:30 and 7. and are usually asleep between 8 and 9.

  • Wake - 8 am

Nap- 10:30 to 1 pm (sometimes until 12:30)

Nap - 3 to 4 pm (sometimes it's less, sometimes we do 3:30 depending on how the morning nap went, etc.)

    Bed time- 7:30 pm

My girls won't do 3 naps anymore.  But usually their morning nap is so long that it doesn't bother me, or them.

  • our schedule is similar to all of yours. She doesn't seem hungry when she's getting up, she's talking to herself...after awhile she'll start to cry, but I think it's because she's bored.

When I came home from work today my H said she has a tooth, so maybe that was it, but it's been going for a couple weeks, so I doubt it, but we'll see.

I might try a dream feed, I tried it before, but she wouldn't eat when I woke her  and I have to be in work by 7:30, so there is no way I can stay up until 11pm, so it'll be an early dream feed.

    Thanks

  • Yep...if one of them is wide awake at 5:30, they just come into bed with us, and that usually buys me another hour.

    6:30a wake up

    9:00a 1st nap (only 30 min.)

    11:30a 2nd nap (another 30 min.)

    3:00p 3rd nap (maybe 40 min.)

    7:00p bed

I do NOT have long nappers.  But they sleep well at night (for the most part) so I just go with it!

  • mine are 5.5 months.   They sleep 12 hours at night around 6:30-6:30.  One wakes up to eat at 4 or 5 and usually goes back down on her own.  I have a bed in the babies' room for nursing, so sometimes I end up falling asleep with her in there until her sister wakes up.     They have always been short nappers.   They used to do 4 1/2 hour naps, but now they do 3 naps most days.   Longest one is the first one around 8am for about an hour.   The other 2 are 30-45 minutes usually.  One around lunchtime, and one later in the afternoon if I'm lucky.
  • Mine will be 6 months in a few days.

They wake at 5:30-6:00 and they are up!  (mom's not...but is back to drinking Coke or Tea for caffiene. Indifferent )

Nap 1:  9ish for about 30 min. to 1 hr)

    Nap 2: 12ish for about 30 min.

    Nap 3: 3ish for about 30+.

Bedtime is after the 6:30 pm feed.  They usually eat 1 time in the night.  Sometimes 2 times.  Like the pp, my girls are not long nappers....so I just know I don't have much free time in the day.  But the nights are more peaceful so it's a trade off.  :)

  • I don't know what happened.  My star napper is now waking up after 30 min for every nap.

Prior to this week our schedule was:

    7 awake

    8:45-10/ 10:30 nap

    12-1 nap

    3-3:30 nap

    6:45 bedtime.

They breastfeed 1x at night.  Like a pp, my previous good napper is now waking and talking to herself in the crib.  She seems hyper and when I go in she is extremely happy to see me and does not seem tired.   If this is teething related, I hope it will return to normal after the tooth emerges.  Anyone have this happen or I'm now stuck with a 30 min napper now?
