3rd Trimester

did anyone NOT use newborn size diapers?

I know I really won't know until he gets here, but I'm anticipating having a larger baby (according to my Dr. as well as me and my DH's birthweights).  I'm just curious if any of you have skipped right over the newborn size and started off using size 1's?  I'm wondering if it would even be worth it to buy a pack of newborns.

Re: did anyone NOT use newborn size diapers?

  • The hospital will give you a pack of newborns. DS was 7 lbs 4 oz at birth was only in newborns for a week. So you could buy the 1s and just see how the baby does in the newborns provided.

  • dd was 8 lbs 9 oz at birth, we used newborn diapers in the hospital then took a half a pack home and had one small pack from one of my showers. But I never actually bought newborn diapers, she was fine in the the 1's.
  • i use them until the umbilical cord falls off so I don't have to worry about folding the diaper down. However, thats it.  My daughter was 8 pounds 4 oz and wore them for the first week.  Then we were in size 1's.

  • Both babies used newborns for about a month they were 7 and 7.2 at birth, I have 2 84ct boxes right now and 2 packs of size 1.  They put both babies in 1's at the hospital and they were way too big.

  • My kids were both put into size 1's right at the hospital. They were 9lbs and 9lbs 12oz. We never used newborns as they were too big.

  • I am really late answering, so sorry! Just catching up for the day...

My DS#1 was 8 lb 13 oz and 21.5 inches long and went straight into size 1's at birth. I am wondering the same thing this time around. Will this LO, DS #2, be too big for them as well? I think I will just wait and see. Like PP said, the hospital will provide you with some. Or, keep the receipts.

  • I have been told that oftentimes you don't need the newborns, and even if you do, only buy one pack because baby will outgrow them really quickly.
