4-year-shot Questions

1. Which shots did you receive?

2. Other than being royally pi$$ed off, did your child have any reactions?

Yes, we are finally going today.  I am a slacker.

Re: 4-year-shot Questions

  • hmmm.  I don't remember exactly.  But I think there were 4.  I know the MMR was one, the DtPt or whatever was one as well.  I have the papers at home showing which ones, I can look this evening if you want.  One was also the chicken pox (it might be combined with another one) b/c we were there a week early for a 'sick' visit and I thought she had them.  They went ahead with the vax, just for precautionary measures since she had already started school.  (she didn't have them)

Kaitlyn had no issues.  She didn't even cry.  Just stared at the lady like OMGOSHICAN'TBELIEVEYOUAREDOINGTHATTOME! lol  She also received her flu vaccine (by spray) and had no problems with it either.

  • I don't remember what Joshua got either.  I think he got 5+a flu shot.  The only reaction was that he was PISSED!  He kept screaming, "Momma she's hurting me!"  That was heart breaking because all I could do was hold him down and tell him it was almost over.

  • I remember the 4-year appt being the Mother of all Shots Appt.  She didn't much like it but it had to be done.

I agree with Charlotte - I think it was like 5 shots!  Then they test their hearing and vision, so you're there for a really long time.  She received a lollipop and a sticker afterwards, but I think I also took her for ice cream.  I was so glad to hear she wouldn't be going back for more injections until age 11.  We do the flu mist so this will be a nice long break from the needles for Sarah.

  • 1.  He got IPV and DTAP, plus flu because it was September.  I opted to wait on the MMR and Vanicella until he was 5 just so it wouldn't be so many at one time.

    2.  He actually did really well and only cried for a minute.

  • I think addie got 3 because they combined 2 twice, (so it could have been 5). Addie and I counted to five together while she did it (I said we'd count together and it would be over by 3, I was wrong it was 5) . Our dr gives them quarters for each shot. And I promised her breakfast. I was freaked about the 4 year shots because I heard 5 too, but she did better then expected. There were tears but they were short lived.

  • Thanks ladies!  She did indeed get 4.  I almost delayed 2 until 5.  I kinda wish I had, but it's done now.  At least they were pretty much all ones she's had before.

She did pretty good with them.  She cried but she kept it under control.  She's usually a screamer, but she just cried a bit.  We went and got ice cream.  ;)

  • We're hoping this good germ vs. bad germ thing he's latched onto will work to our advantage. I've been carefully explaining how shots teach your body how to combat bad germs...I know it will fail, but I can try. :) (Dreading this one for sure. Hope it went well for you.)
