Spitting up...HELP

I don't post often on here but I am a faithful lurker : )

I have a 6 week LO who spits up everytime she is burped. During feedings I burp her about every .5-1 oz she drinks. She will let out a burp and a few seconds later she will spit up. Sometimes it is just a little bit but others it seems as if she has emptied her entire stomach contence. She is formula fed (Gerber Goodstart)

Does anyone have any expierence with this issue or any tips?

I am a first time mommy so any advice would be wonderful. She has a doctors appt. on Monday and I plan to bring it up then too.

 Thanks in advance ladies!

Re: Spitting up...HELP

  • This is just like my LO, and he has acid reflux. The pedi will probably ask you some questions on Monday to further assess the issue. Some babies just spit up! My pedi said over half of all babies have reflux, it's just that some have it much worse and some don't know because the spit up goes back down before it comes up. LO is taking Zantac... she wanted to switch him to Prilosec but it was $150 with my insurance. Pft!

Is she wetting enough diapers and gaining enough weight? My pedi said my LO is gaining enough so he's getting the calories he needs, so we'll just have to deal with the spit up. Does she seem bothered by the spit up? DS used to fuss after spit up, but since he's been on Zantac, it doesn't bother him the least bit. I'm just tired of all the laundry--lots of burp rags, bibs, and shirts ruined!

     GL!

  • Not to gross you out, but what does it look like? If it looks like just liquid then it hasn't hit her stomach but if it looks curdled then it has. I have had this problem with my LO.

Are you BF or FF? If you are FF then I would try sitting her up a little more. Also if you are FF what kind of bottles are you using. I use NUK with the air system and it has seemed to help my lo.

Good luck. I would mention it to your Dr, but if you concerned you could even call before Monday.

  • I find DS only spits up if he is overfed or has a little acidreflux...but my MIL has told me my husband use to spit up all the time when he was a baby. She thought he was allergic to the formula...so i would suggest calling the pedi and see if its a gas issue or something to do with the formula. Hope all is better soon!!

  • When she spits up it is like curdled and slimey and right after she lets out a few cries but then is fine again and wants to eat more.

I have tried a bunch of different bottles, the NUK being one of them and she is so darn picky...she will only drink out of the evenflo comfi nipples....

    THANK YOU

  • DS has acid reflux.  We've found the magic combo to be - Dr Browns bottles, Similic Spit Up(it has rice in the formula so it's thicker and stays down better), and sitting him upright for at least 15-20 minutes after each feeding.  We've definitely noticed an improvement.
