1st Trimester

When did you first get morning sickness?

Just curious about how early on in your pregnancy you had morning sickness?

Also, does it make you feel bad, or do you just get nauseous, then throw up and feel better immediately?

Thanks!

Re: When did you first get morning sickness?

  • I had nausea off and on between weeks 6-9, but never actually threw up, so I consider myself lucky. I did have a few moments where I was at work and suddenly felt like I was going to hurl, just out of nowhere, but never did. However, my allergies have been off the chart to the point that I can barely function at times, but I still consider it better than throwing up all day and night like some women do. You might get lucky, my doctor said there is a 50/50 chance about the puking.

  • My nausea started around 4 weeks pg, but it was mild. By 5w5d pg, I was very nauseous. I've never vomited, but just felt like a good puke would make me feel better almost constantly. I wanted to vomit b/c I felt so sick. Everything offended my nose, nothing tasted good, even water. My appetite was come & go until around 6 weeks when I felt like I would die of starvation & thirst, but still couldn't find anything that was good enough to eat or drink. At this point, I decided to get Sea Bands & was able to eat a meal.

  • i started getting queazy around 5.5 wks. by week 6, normal smells were offensive and i was nauseated 24/7. i'm almost through wk 7 now. still nauseated off and on but i seem to have it under better control. for one, i'm living off of B-6 and chef boyardee mini ravioli. i haven't thrown up but have had spells of dry heaving. keep food in your belly - dry cereal seems to work for me.

  • I just hit 5 weeks, and I'm starting to feel sick to my stomach more often.  I have basically been eating crackers all day long while I'm at work.  It seems to help.  I'm still able to eat my regular meals throughout the day, too, but some foods just don't seem as good as they used to.  Not vomiting yet, and I'm hoping I can get away without it.
  • I've been curious about the same thing, and was just considering posting but didn't want to duplicate your post.  Our pregnancy was a surprise, and I was a little unsure of the dates - when I called into the OB office and asked about an U/S for dating (I would have been about 7 or 11 weeks), the RN said if I was 11 weeks I most likely would have had some MS by now.  She was pretty convinced that it peaks at 8-9 weeks.  I ended up getting my ultrasound (even though I have to mention I laughed when the indication for test said "confirmation anxiety" on my form at the Dr. office), and was a little behind my LMP dates, (was 7w3d by LMP on Tues, but measured 6w6d and saw a heartbeat at 136 bpm!)

So I have a big test next week (two full days of testing), and am a little nervous because that will be right at 8 weeks.  So far little waves of nausea when I get hungry, but very manageable.

It seems to me, from lurking here the last couple weeks, that most gals who get MS start in the 5th-6th week, but I was curious if anyone had just little waves of nausea and then got really sick later??

Sorry if you feel like I'm high-jacking your post, just had the same questions... :)

  • With DS, I had nausea from week 6-12.  I never threw up though so that was nice.  It was worse if I had an empty stomach so I suggest eating frequent small meals.

  • Mine started at about 6 wks.  The worst nausea was around 7 weeks, and in week 8-9 it has been off and on.  I only threw up once, on Christmas day.  Gross.  I've been living off of citrus fruit, toast, crackers, and cereal.  I'll be starving, but nothing sounds good to eat.  Sigh.
  • Today is the first day that I actually feel as though I may lose my lunch.. no m/s before today.

  • i can tell you that throwing up does not provide relief for most of the people i know.

i feel sick from about 1 pm until I go to bed every day.  This started earlier this week.  I expect it to last at least 4 weeks based on my last pregnancy.

  • MS can really vary. With DD and this pg. I started feeling sick and vomiting at 7w. I vomit a lot, a few times a day. Now that I am 12w I have some good days where I feel OK, but for the most part, if I am nauseated, I vomit and feel better. For DD it lasted the entire pg. it was much less intense as time went on, but I was vomiting on the table during my c/s :)

With DS that passed, I was sick and vomiting from about 5w to  9w. Horrible, non-stop, vomit everything I ate, can't get off the couch bad. It let up after 9w for the most part.

  • I asked this once upon a time on another board when I was pregnant with my daughter and the average answer was 6 weeks. Looks like history is repeating itself with the above answers. I had m/s from 6 weeks until 17 weeks. It was the longest 3 months of my life! The best thing to do is to find what's not offensive and to eat that and to take your vitamin before bed because the iron in it can make you sick. I personally lived on PB&J, Ramen and vitamins.

  • my morning sickness started around 5 weeks, and i have been sick all day since. i normally vomit first thing in the morning but it brings no relief. my doctor told me to expect another 5-7 weeks of this, i am currently 8 1/2 weeks. it has gotten to the point that she put me on zofran. i got the seabands, bnatal pops, fresh ginger in tea. Ice water w/ lemon, sun chips, goldfish, and other bland dry foods seem to go down and stay down.
  • My kicked in about 6 weeks, and I am nauseous every day from waking up to going to sleep, and it's to the point where I really don't want to eat or drink anything.  Vomiting doesn't help to feel better, and I think the only thing that really has made any difference is just trying to keep something in my stomach.  For me, when I am hungry it makes the nausea a ton worse.
  • I am about 8 weeks and I started getting MS at 5 weeks and it has not stopped.  I have only thrown up a few times, but I am constantly nauseous.  Eating small meals and nothing to spicy or greasy seems to help somewhat.  Also, ginger ale has helped me.  I have actually lost about 9 lbs which my dr says is fine.

  • Mine started around week 6 and is still going strong. Ugh! I throw up all day and night and am nauseas 24/7. It's really hard for me to find anything to eat that *might* stay down. And no, after you throw up, it's still no relief, I dry heave for a long time after I'm done and nothing's in my stomach to throw up. Smells make it worse, riding in the car make it worse, being hot makes it worse. So far I've lost 10 pounds during this pregnancy and I'm really worried about the baby. Lucky us we will get to hear the heartbeat next Tuesday though!
  • mine hit around 7 weeks - i dry heave in the morning after i brush my teeth and maybe twice a week i throw up at night.  I don't feel sick constantly.  it comes and goes
  • My morning sickness started this week and Im 7 weeks.... I dont actually get sick but I feel so nauseous when I wake up.  And it pretty much lasts through the morning.  And everything STINKS!!! so bad.... and nothing sound appealing to eat.  Ive found that lemon water helps alot.  This morning I had to eat a lime iciscle pop and it helped too.

  • With DD, I never got it. I am 6 weeks along now and so far nothing. I might escape it again...

I am really, REALLY hoping this is the case for me since I haven't had it hit me yet. I get gross acidy stomach feelings (I've always had acid reflux) that are worse some days than others, and sometimes nothing sounds good to eat, but I haven't had the whole nausea/vomiting thing so far.

  • First let me say... DO NOT COUNT on your m/s ending by 12 weeks (unless you've experienced that with a previous pregnancy)!!!!!!!!!! I say this because tons of women ask 'when will it end?' and 12w is NOT necessarily when yours will end, no matter how many women respond with that answer. Just be prepared!

With DS I was sick from 5w to about 24w.

This pregnancy I got sick at 6w and have JUST started feeling better this past week. Both pregnancies I have been on Zofran.

ETA: throwing up never made me feel better.

  • For me, M/S started at 5w5d.  I wouldn't even say it was a nausea feeling.  Basically I am starving all day long (my stomach is actively growling), but whenever I go to eat anything, NOTHING looks/sounds appealing.  When I try to eat food, I have a hard time getting it down because things taste and smell so different now.  Just bought some sea bands yesterday and they seem to help!
