Birth control? kinda long

Ok i went in yesterday for a check up on my c-section incision. My doctor is already asking me what type of bc i want to go on, he brings up that my best options are mirena or implanon which both are long term types of birth control. He gave me pamphlets and told me to think about it until my 6 week check up and for now he put me on the mini pill jolivette until i make a decision. I wanted to start trying within a year and neither seems like a great idea because mirena lasts up to 5 years and implanon lasts up to 3 years.

My doctor gave me only these options because i cant take anything with estrogen because it gives me bad headaches. The mini pill is what i was on before i got pregnant with kirsten, but its not a very accurate method for me because it has to be taken at the same time everyday and i'd forget sometimes and now that i have a baby i have even more on my mind to not remember to take my pill especially at the same time.

Anyone have any experiance with either mirena or implenon?

  • I have no experience with either, but they really don't seem like what you are looking for anyway. Have you considered a cervical cap? www.femcap.com

I was using the diaphragm and then switched to the femcap. I really like it.

  • Yea neither of them are what i'm looking for and doesnt seem cost effective for me to only use it for a year when its good for 3 or 5 years. I had told that to him and he just doesnt feel the mini pill will work for me due to having to take it at the same time everyday to be affective. I will look at the website i've never heard of it before but will definetly look into it. thanks for the idea.

  • I'm not sure if you are super eager to TTC again, but I went on Depo Provera. The idea of an IUD creeps me out and I had the same issue with remembering to take the mini pill. When I was on Depo in the past, my period return right away and was on a regular schedule, but I know they say sometimes it can take up to a year to be able to get pregnant when you get off it. I don't know if that's an issue for you. My plan is to take it for a year. Go with regular bc for another year and then see what happens after that. HTH's. I really wish there were other options out there for bc.
