I saw in one of your previous posts that you have 1 blocked tube and you are having a lap done. Can I ask what they are doing with the lap - are they trying to open the tube in the lap?
In my HSG last week, they found that both of my tubes were blocked. We met with my obgyn and she said that surgery is not recommended because it usually does not work. However, we are meeting with an RE this week and they will look at my HSG again.
Just curious what your RE thought. Thanks for your help!
Re: ~ Ms. H13 ~
Hi Daisybug,
Yes, my right tube was blocked. My RE suggested a lap mostly to have a good look at the left tube - the HSG showed that it was open, but as the RE explained, that alone doesn't necessarily mean that it is in good working condition. So he suggested a lap to see what the left tube looked like and also to check for possible endo. My ob/gyn (who did the surgery) said he would do his best to repair the right tube if it was repairable, but this was never a big topic of discussion since the HSG had shown that there were blockages in more than one spot. I had my lap yesterday and they ended up taking out my right tube which was very swollen and ultimately could not be saved. (The good news is that my left tube looks normal, so hopefully we can now get KTFU!).
I would definately discuss your situation with your RE/obgyn. If one or both of your tubes has a chance of being repaired, a lap could be a good option for you. If this doesn't seem to be the case, you might discuss whether or not your blocked tubes could affect your IVF outcome - my right tube was hydrosalpinx, and when I started doing research I found a lot of information on how this can reduce success rates of pregnancy.
Hopefully this info is helpful - if you have any more questions feel free to ask.
I am so glad I asked you! Funny you mention taking out the tubes completely. When we met with my obgyn last week to discuss the HSG, she said "Dont be shocked if they suggest to totally remove your tubes." She said that sometimes the bad tubes can give off a bad toxin that can be harmful to a pregnancy.
Now I will definitely make sure to bring up the tube issue tomorrow. I kind of want them to do a lap so that they can check out what is going on in there and if I have endo or something else. It is good to know that they can remove the tubes through a lap.
I hope you are feeling better from your lap and you get KTFU quickly!
