If you have 2 of the same gender...

Are you going to be handing down underwear?

T is growing out of his Size 2T-3T underwear and I am not sure what to do. Normally, I would not suggest anyone wear another person's undies but it seems smart to keep them for M. We bought *a lot* of underwear for plenty of back up when potty training so a lot of them are still in good condition, esp ones from Gymboree and Gap. WWYD?

(As an aside, the level of quality of Gymbo and Gap underwear over packaged undies from Target is literally astounding. Even though he wore his 'fancier' underwear 5x as much, they are still in much, much better condition. Much better.)

  • Gabriel is wearing Joshua's old underwear.  They have been washed...

  • Any future kid will use Tracey's cloth diapers. There's a lot more "damage" done to those than undies in most cases.

  • My kids are 100% different seasonally so they haven't worn the same clothes so heck yes we're going to reuse whatever we can. We threw out most of her poopy panties so I'm not grossed out by the idea of reusing. I agree, the gap/gymboree panties are holding up better though DD is definitely more attached to her 8,000 pairs of cheapo princess panties from Target which will have to be replaced for J as they're worn so frequently.
  • So far we've re-used the 2T sizes.  Lately it's been funny to hear E. adamantly insist, "Those are Sarah's!" and then refuse to wear a hand-me-down unless given direct permission by Big Sister.  This happened recently with some princess panties.

I need to look into the fancier underwear.  We always buy ours from Target, but "fancy pants" might be an incentive to have fewer accidents!

  • I don't have two, but I probably would reuse them.  I mean, if you cloth diapered your kids you'd use the same diapers, right?
  • If there were bad accidents in them, I throw them away... So I see no problem with her using 'normal' worn ones.

  • if this one is a girl, yep, she will be wearing her sisters boudongas.

I have hot water and bleach. and the truly icked up ones (desitin is a beyotch to get out of the night time cushy ones) go in the trash.

    but yes I will reuse.

  • I plan to hand down the ones in good condition. (And they're the regular package ones.) That is if Sean doesn't outgrow L. before he reaches the age when he'll need them...
  • Not that I have 2 of the same gender... but E wears hand-me-down undies from friends.

Not even family-used undies. And some of those undies belonged to my friend's friend before that (which I know because they have her nametag in them. Yup, she's using third-hand undies (those are gymbo undies, no dora panties have made it 3rd hand). But I also bought used cloth diapers, so I don't see a difference.

  • Oh yes.  And they actually both wear the same size right now, so if one drawer gets low I just borrow from the other.  They get washed.

If we get to move before this baby is born, we will look into cloth diapers (our water here is terrible.  Simply terrible.) and I will use them again if there is a #4.  So... if I'll reuse those underwear is no biggie.  :)
