About the photo/memory books

I posted this below, but will repost. We're in FL now and I have no idea how fast the action is moving here. I check on you all on my phone but can't respond there. Not to toot my own horn or anything, but I love these books and find them so valuable. I dream that one day (like during the confusing teenage years) Ada will read them too and know without any doubt that she has been so incredibly loved from a time when she was merely a glimmer in the corner of our minds. Here is my re-post:

I also have a memory book but haven't written in it. I mean what day did she get her first tooth? I don't think I can pin down half of these things because all of it has been such a tremendous evolution.

Instead, I've made books for her on Shutterfly: https://babypeeper.shutterfly.com/

It's easy and I can finish one in less than a week. They have been great presents for the grandparents, who have a full set. The next book will be a 1-2 year book and I plan to use scrapbooking software to do it. I'm so excited!!

My blog has been really helpful for keeping track of her milestones - big and small - and my thoughts, feelings, and emotions. I've thought a lot about not keeping it up but then I go back and look at the evolution of it, the evolution of myself as a mom and I know it's valuable. Even if it's only me and maybe 3 other people who read it. I found a place that will print and bind them. I might do that for her to read one day.

I'll post this separately too - I think these books are wonderful ways to document. Ada loves to read the story of Ada Caroline Shepherd. It's my favorite story too ;-)

  • Those are amazing!  Now I'm looking at Ellie's poor, somewhat filled out baby book and feeling like she's been cheated.

Oh, and Ellie LOVES kefir - great suggestion a few weeks back.

    Kefir is awesome!

The great thing is that you can make books like these anytime. I finished her most recent one just in time for Christmas presents - 6 months later!

  • Aww I'm so glad you shared these with us! And FWIW, I ADORE your blog- I cannot even tell you how many times I've left it with tears in my eyes. Good tears, of course.

I actually created our wedding album like this- using Blurb.com. I blogged my pregnancy and that will be turned into a book, and I'll do the same with Sabrina's 1st year. But upon viewing yours, I'm thinking I should break them up because I've got gobs of pic, but also gobs of text I want to include!

  • What a treasure!

On a somewhat unrelated note, I have started doing a lot of ancestry research. Finding snapshots of past generations is tough, not to mention stories of "who" these people were. You are giving Ada such a wonderful gift. Not only will she have such wonderful pictures, but stories of just how special her mom and dad are/were for generations to come.

  • That's awesome! I feel so behind. My mom gave me a simple memory book and I still haven't finished it. Plus, there's a shadow box hanging in A's nursery which is still empty. I have all the stuff ready but no time to do it! I think a photo book is a good idea, it's easy to do it online (no scissors, glue, etc) and with a few clicks you're done. Good job!

  • Thanks for these ideas - I'm off to check them out this weekend.  I knew there had to be a better way - lol.
  • My mom's been making those for M and they're awesome!
