HELP!! I need a new OB/GYN!!!!

Ok, so I need some help....I'm in my 21st week of pregnancy, and I just read some online reviews about my doctor, and they did NOT make me comfortable. I've only been going to his office since I first found out about my pregnancy, but I have yet to meet the actual doctor. I've only been seen by the nurse practitioner, who is great. But the online reviews said that my doctor is VERY pro C-section, doesn't listen to what his patients want, makes them feel stupid, and has a horrible bedside manner. Needless to say, I'd rather not deal with this at all.

I hate to switch doctor's in the middle of my pregnancy, but better safe than sorry. Plus, he ONLY delivers out of Chandler Regional, and I would like another option, based on things I've heard about that hospital.

Any suggestions you ladies could give would be GREATLY appreciated....and if they are in the Gilbert/Chandler/Mesa/Tempe area, that would be even better.

Thanks!! :)

i plan on delivering at chandler regional too. I am going to new horizons women care (across the street from chandler regional). my uncle is a doctor for chandler regional and the gilbert hospital and i nanny for a head ob/gyn nurse at chandler too. This group of doctors came highly recommended from both my uncle and the lady i nanny for. Good luck with your decision!

Oh my gosh....quite the coincidence, but that's actually where I'm transferring from, lol. I saw the NP there, but have yet to meet the doctor, but I've just read some reviews that made me realize he isn't what I'm looking for in a doctor.

The practice is lovely, and the Chandler office is absolutely gorgeous, but I just didn't like that my options were so limited with them. :(

really? which dr did you have? my uncle said one of the drs is an a-hole and wouldnt let me see him!!! but my uncle loves dr bustamante (who actually is leaving that practice this month and going to her own practice i believe) she delivered my cousins actually. I will probably follow her when her own practice opens up. my uncle is keeping me updated. I can do the same for you if you like. Ive met with dr. villa and he was really and the nurse practioner ms. smith. you can ask to see different doctors every visit if youd like to get to know all the drs thats what im going to do for now. Good luck. Keep me informed in what you decide! :)

I go to Valley Women for Women. They're in Gilbert. I liked almost all of the doctors I saw, and the ones I didn't weren't bad, just not super duper friendly. I believe they deliver at Mercy Gilbert (which is AWESOME!) and Chandler.

Well, I never actually even got to see a doctor, because they always just scheduled me with the NP (which is another reason I'm outta there.....21 weeks along and still have yet to meet the dr. who is supposed to deliver my baby? Yikes.....)

I was told there was only one option for my doctor, and it's probably the same one who your uncle wouldn't let you see, because it sounds like it from the reviews I've heard of him.

I use Goodman and Partridge. The office I go to delivers out of both Mercy Gilbert and Banner Gateway, but we're going with Banner Gateway. I absolutely love all of the doctors I've seen there! My sister also uses them and loves it. Some people don't give it very good reviews, but compared to the doctor I saw for my previous two pregnancies, this one is way better.

I also use Goodman and Partridge.  I started out at the Mesa office and just switched to the Chandler office after we moved.  The staff is nice and the hours are great.  I rarely have had to take off of work for an appointment.

I actually made an appointment with them shortly after my last post....I looked at my list of providers, called them to find out their availability, and they were just fabulous with working around my schedule. They even got me in for an appointment at the exact same day/time as the next one I would have had with my now former dr.'s office.

I'll be seeing Dr. Laird when I go there....I want to deliver at Mercy Gilbert, because it's so close. (I can literally see it from my house)

So hopefully it works out....I've got a good feeling about this place though. And thanks for all the suggestions!! :)

I'm also with Goodman and Partridge (Mesa office).  They are very accommodating and all the doctors are great.  I switched to them when I got pregnant because they had evening and weekend hours and being a teacher, leaving work early just isn't an option.  While they can't guarantee which doctor you'll have for your delivery,  they recommend that you see all the doctors in the practice so you are familiar with them.

I mainly lurk on these boards without posting, but I really feel like I need to add something to some of the posts I've seen.

I was a patient of Drs Goodman and Partridge. No one in their offices bothered to tell me that they charge an extra $123 for every "after hours" appointment. It was only after three "after hours" appointments that I received my first statement and realized that they were charging me so much extra. When I called the billing department to complain that no signs had been posted or that the personnel had not volunteered this information, the person I spoke to told me, "Yes, we've had lots of complaints about that. We've posted signs in some of the offices."

I really took exception to this... Why didn't they post signs in ALL of the offices after "lots of complaints?" This seems really dishonest to me. I began looking at consumer feedback online and found many similar complaints, most of which were related to billing practices. I've since left for Valley Women for Women (who also deliver at Chandler Regional and Mercy Gilbert), and I'm really happy there.

I understand that some posters on this board have had great experiences with Drs Goodman and Partridge; I just wanted to put this out there because I wish someone had told me this before I started seeing them.

Thanks for letting me add my two cents!

Wow, this is a good heads up....I'll take this into consideration for sure!! I have an appointment with them on the 5th of November, so if I decide to stay with them, I'll make sure to find out what they consider "after hours," in case I ever fall into that category. Thank you. :)

If it doesn't work out, I may be calling your OB/GYN next, lol!! :)

I was unhappy the lack of attention I was receiving from my OBGYN in Scottsdale.  Don't get me wrong she was great I just decided I didn't like the herd feeling of waiting 20-30 minutes for my appointment, peeing in a cup, drawing blood then seeing her for all of 5 mins in which I felt I couldn't really ask questions nor did I really learn anything about what my body was going through.  After touring hospitals I made the decision to do a home birth. I found a great midwife that does home births (I live in Chandler).  For those of you who aren't comfortable with a home birth but don't quite like the hospital environment my midwife just opened up a birth center in down town phoenix with another midwife and a very experienced obgyn.  The birth center is really nice and allows for things like water birth and the comforts of a more home like feeling with the added security of being attended to by an obgyn.  I really like going to a midwife as opposed to a obgyn. Each of my appointments can be up to 2hours and I've learned so much about pregnancy, what my body and baby are experience, etc then I ever would have learned otherwise.  Good luck on your obgyn search.  Here's a link to the new birthing center/midwife info if you are interested: https://blossombirthcenter.com/

Ok, so as an update, I had my first appointment with Goodman & Partridge tonight, and I absolutely LOVE THEM!!!! They were incredibly thorough, answered all my questions, took their time, and even gave me a certificate for a 30 minute prenatal massage!!

They were so accomadating, and even said that they would authorize for me to have a 3rd ultrasound later in my pregnancy, even though my insurance only covers 2 normally (unless a dr. authorizes another one). So YAY!!! I think I finally found my perfect doctor!! Thanks for all the advice ladies!! :)

I suggest Dr. Brass-Jones at True Harmony Wellness.  She's fabulous.  She's in her practice by herself with a PA.  The first 36 weeks you alternate between the two of them, one week you see the PA, the next the OB.  And her PA is fabulous!  She's very conservative but open to all your wishes too!  I absolutely love her and recommend her to all my friends and family who love her as much as I do.

I used Goodman and Partridge for this pregnancy (I delivered a month ago).  In the end I really liked the job Dr. Iachovelli did with my delivery.  However, I was ready to change OB's just 2 weeks prior to delivery for a variety of reasons.  I did not though, but only because of time constraints.  Although everything turned out alright, I would not recommend this practice to anyone.  For one, there are too many practicing physicians...you often see a different doctor (or nurse practitioner in most cases) and don't know who will deliver your baby before the time comes.  I am also told that Dr. Goodman NEVER delivers (so why bother seeing him?) and that Dr. Partridge usually delivers...though he didn't in my case.

I left their office once in hysterical tears when the nurse practitioner, Jenny U, gave me the scare of a lifetime when , at 37 weeks, after having all the tests for a high risk pregnancy through the Fetal Womens Center, Jenny abruptly came into the room and told me that my sonogram suggested that my baby has "an extremely small head...in the 2 percentile range" and then went on to tell me that there was a problem with my umbilical cord - that it wasn't getting proper blood flow and pressure was building up.  Both of these statements led me to believe that my baby had some kind of brain damage (lack of oxygen, etc.) or deformity.  I asked her what this meant and she put her hand in my face and said "If you would let me finish, I was about to tell you that..." In the end, she never explained it and when she finished talking, I wrapped back around and said "So what does that mean?"...she proceeded to tell me that she couldn't tell me and that I'd have to see a perinatologist for that and "Good luck getting an appointment with them" (because it was Friday).  She left to get a test and when she came back with an assistant and the test, I was sobbing and she never acknowledged it and never tried to assure me that this was not something to get worked up over.  Fortunately, as a 39 year old with Gestational Diabetes and a high risk pregnancy, I had a relationship with a perinatologist already.  I called them immediately and told them what happened and they saw me 2 hours later, had another sonogram and they assured me that (1) my baby's head was not "extremely small" because my baby, in general, was small...because my husband and I are small....and that it was in the 10 percentile range, not 2 percentile and that (2) there was no means for them to determine from a sonogram that my baby was not getting sufficient blood flow through the umbilical cord so they have no idea how she could have suggested that to me.  The doppler itself showed a normal flow of blood in the umbilical cord.

In the end, after hours of sobbing and worry, I can now say that there was nothing wrong with my baby.  He's 1 month old now and totally normal and he has a perfect head.

So, this was my second run-in with Jenny U (I had one other issue with her but don't have time to write it all out.)  She is horrible and should be fired.  I found another review online where a patient accused Jenny U of assaulting her.  Run. Fast.

Anyway, if you want a more intimate experience, I would recommend a different practice.  I waited 30-45 minutes after my scheduled appointment almost every appointment to see the doctor.  They show little concern or value for your time.

Lastly, you can never call the office you visit directly.  You must always go through a central office and they will call your specific office and give them a message.  At a very important time in my pregnancy, it took me nearly 8 hours to determine if an urgent fax had reached the doctor.  After being assured that it had reached the doctor, I had not heard from the doctor after 4 hours, when I called again I was told that the doctor had left the office.  I asked if he had seen the results and was told that he hadn't.  So, despite being told that it was hand delivered to him (to shut me up, obviously), he never even received the results.   I instantly demanded that one of the other doctors on duty address the immediate treatment for the condition I had tested positive for (MRSA) based on the recurrent test results and how far into my pregnancy I was.

I feel like my experience with this practice made my pregnancy extremely stressful and unpleasant, despite the fact that I loved being pregnant itself.  It was so stressful that my husband and I agree that this will probably be our only child.  :(  We can't go through all this again.

Good to know. I was reading what the previous poster's have said. I am also looking for a OB/GYN and doctor. I just moved here in March and a few days ago got a BFP! Pretty excited and now have to search for a good Doctor. I live in Tempe and need to find out which doctors my plan covers, but ANY input is great! Thanks ladies!
