Nursing Bras

When did you break down and get one? I bought new bras at about 12 weeks, but they are now too tight and the underwires are killing me now. Is it too soon for nursing bras?

Re: Nursing Bras

  • I've been wearing wire free bras for weeks now.  I finally went to the nursing bra kind last week.  I think I hit another growth spurt and needed to upsize.  I found great prices on Ebay (new of course)  some were like $2 each!

  • My bbs were hurting so bad around the time I found out I was pregnant that I just went to Wal-Mart and bought a couple. I still wear them and they are amazing. I'm sure there are some that are better quality, but the ones from there are just fine with me.

  • I have one really nice nursing bra, but am a huge fan of nursing tanks.  You will get a lot of use out of them this summer and are comfy to sleep in.  I get mine at target.

  • I didn't buy a nursing bra until my milk came in the week after DD was born as I had no idea what size I would be. Maternity stores sell sleep bras you could try now though. They prob don't offer much support though.
  • I brought some at Motherhood Maternity about a month ago when they were having a sale.  The manager made sure that I had enough room to grow into them so I shouldnt have to buy anymore (hopefully)

  • My suggestion is not to buy a nursing bra until after your milk comes in. Get tanks for before the baby is here, but don't get a nursing bra.

Also, most nursing bras are wire-free because any restriction on the breasts can cause clogged ducts and other issues. If you really want to buy one now, just be aware that most are wireless, although I've seen a few w/ wires.

You can buy maternity bras, too. I had one or two that I bought from Mimi Maternity and wore them towards the end. Otherwise, I just order a size up in my regular bra to accommodate "the girls."

  • I HIGHLY recommend Bravado bras. They're super comfy, while being supportive and stretchy. I got them a few weeks into BF'ing and wished I had them for the majority of my pregnancy with K.

  • I bought a couple about 2 weeks ago. One with underwire and one without. I remember with DS getting huge right after labor but I still think the one I bought will fit after the swelling goes down a bit. The cup is a little big now, but the straps fit well. I would just be aware that you will probably get bigger as the pregnancy goes on.
