Naprotechnology!!!!

Recently went to a doctor who specializes in Naprotechnology. If you don't know what it is-look it up-especially if you have unexplained infertility. It is a catholic based program so don't let that scare you off. I wish someone told me about this years ago!! We are going on 5 years of TTC and have had 3 unsuccessul IUIs. I refuse to do IVF due to the cost, lack of guarantee, and havoc it wreaks on your body. I have had all kinds of tests done over the last 4 years and finally by word of mouth heard of Dr. Carpentier in Gardner, MA and Napro. It is based on the Creighton Model of Fertility Charting-there are probably charting teachers in your area who can help you learn how to chart (it's basically very detailed cm charting ONLY) and bringing this information to the doctor can help him to give you an answer of why you are infertile! I went to him Friday and was told my immune system is basically not working up to par which is a main issue with infertility. I am on 10,000 ius of Vitamin D plus 400 mg magnesium plus Naltrexone at night to boost endorphins. I have to have a laparoscopy done to rule out/clean up any endometriosis (which he is 90% sure I have due to my spotting history though I have NO symptoms of endo-this is the only test I have NOT done) and they have a very high success rate-even higher than IVF though it may take longer to get your body adjusted. They believe in RESTORING your fertility (not masking it with drugs) to promote a healthy functioning reproductive system and a healthy pregnancy. SO we'll see how things go now that I've started the vitamin regime and the endorphin boosters (which I might add also help with weight loss rather than the lovely weight gain all those clomid/HCG etc drugs provide). I wanted to share this information as I am so happy it was shared with me. I feel optimistic for the first time since my lovely failed IUIs and for those of you in the same boat as me who prefer NOT to do more artificial treatments that provide you with nothing but less money in your pocket, weight gain, and still no baby...please please please look into this as well as the correlation between vitamin D, magnesium, and infertility!

I've heard of this and must admit it's interesting. But I really wonder, with some issues, how much that stuff can help. Also, I'm not sure if it's just how I read it, but your post seems a little judgey of those of us who have chosen the way we're treated. Apologies if I read it wrong.

Nope-not judging-my opinion is strictly how I feel for myself and for anyone else who feels they do not want further artificial treatment for the reason only that it has not produced a result and that most REs want to just 'treat' you rather than find out the cause when it's 'unexplained.' I have friends who have had successful IUIs and a friend who has had 3 unsuccessful and a recent failed IVF. She, like me, is done with the artificial route and ready for something that can naturally boost your own body to work (though it takes time unfortunately- but it's been 4 1/2 years, what's a few more months?)

I understand for you and being "unexplained" that this might be a good way for you to go.

I'd love to have (as you put it) more money in my pocket, less weight gain, and have a baby-but there are so many people that this would not help, no matter what they would do. It won't help my DH with having zero motile sperm, or the fact that a prior surgeon caused damage and is now in testicular failure. It wouldn't necessarily help someone with PCOS. It wouldn't help someone with a clotting disorder or a chromosomal disorder that causes miscarriages. Or someone with Premature Ovarian Failure.

If you have never charted I have to wonder what the heck you were doing for 5 years. I had been using charting and natural family planning since I stopped BCP's.

But you are on an Infertility board. Many of us have done anything and everything possible. We have charted, and taken more supplements and vitamins than ever thought possible.

And to assume that we would choose to go this route as if this is a choice-that's ballsy.

Yes I charted temps the first 2 years and cm and all that. This is a DIFFERENT way of charting cm that is unlike fertility friend or any of those I've done. That is why I mentioned it was especially for those with unxplained. Trust me I've done the herbs and acupuncture and all that other stuff. I've done it all except IVF. That is why I wanted to post since it is such a different way of thinking and I was glad to have heard about it.

Also I see a lot of things wrong w/ this. First of all, isn't the Creighton model mostly about timing BD? Honestly, people put so much focus on "timing it right." While this is important, if you're not IF it shouldn't be hard to just have sx pretty often around the middle of the month and get KU. That's how most of the people on this planet got here. Also, there are risks associated with taking MASSIVE doses of Vitamin D like you're talking about. Finally, just b/c you spot does not mean you have endo. I've consulted w/ 3 REs about this.

I get why people like NaPro, I really do. And I think there are a lot of people who don't know it's an option.

I think the problem is in the way you approached it. There is no one-size-fits-all answer for Infertility. My RE has even told me that even with my crappy-ish eggs I might have someday be able to get pregnant without treatment... BUT my dh has NO sperm, not one ever found in a SA.

He has to havesurgery to retrieve sperm from his testicles. To use those few guys, we have to do IVF with ICSI. That is kind of an extreme example, but there are lots of cases where medical intervention is needed.

It really hurts to have someone come in and tell you that you're making a bad choice (which is how it came off).

And why would you come and post here IF YOU ALREADY HATED EVERYONE.

EXERCISE boosts endorphins and is free, Naltrexone is as substitute for those with "opioid dependence" and treatment of alcohol dependence. I find this treatment suspect.

I could go on all day, this post is seriously damaging. If any of this were reliable or medically supported through clinical trial, then these practices would be adopted by the medical community. None of the success rates mention age at all, which is a read flag for anyone looking at research.

"Case No. 1: In this patient with dry cycles and seven years of infertility, Vitamin B6 was recommended as a mucus enhancing supplement. In the last cycle, limited mucus was observed and pregnancy achieved without any additional assistance except fertility-focused intercourse (from Pope Paul VI Institute research, 2004)."

Yes, B6 and TI triumphs over 7 years of IF.

This sounds like a sales pitch! You should KNOW your audience! It would be one thing to post this on Trying to Get Pregnant, but to post on IF is just stupid. None of us jumped on the IVF roller coaster for fun!! We have medical issues that cannot be overcome by charting and timed intercourse. There is no way I will ever get pregnant having sex with MH. His semen doesn't liquify and the sperm are trapped within the semen and on top of that my DNA kills our babies.

I think everyone is being very insensitive to someone who is trying to help. We are all smart women who all want the same thing. Why can't we give the benefit of the doubt that this stranger is just trying to give another option to the people that it may pertain to. If your husband has low sperm count, then obviously this isn't going to be the complete answer to making a baby for you and your husband. I believe we should also remember that reading something online doesn't let you hear the sincerity someone has when posting something. These websites are meant to be support for people searching and wanting the same thing. Most of you tore her down for finding some hope and sharing it in a way YOU took offensive. Infertility is a very sensitive subject for most women but try and remember we are all in the same boat. We need help conceiving. If there was only one way of help, then we wouldn't need that much support, now would we?

I've tried it. While I hope you have success, it most certainly isn't an option for everyone. For Catholics who don't believe in IVF, sure. Try it. But, for me, it was a huge waste of time. It was the WORST surgery I've ever had. My doctor gave me the same meds you're on. Sure, they made me feel great, but I never got pregnant. For most of us here, checking cervical mucus isn't going to get us pregnant.

I agree with Lisser - this is why sometimes I don't like reading the infertility board. There can be a lot of negativity. Thank you Kristyss for sharing what you have found. Sorry that you were bombarded by not-so-nice responses.

Yes - she hasn't been successful with naprotechnology yet - but neither have we(which is why we are all here). I am going on my 3rd IVF and this will probably be it for me. I am really losing faith in the process. I don't want to give up completely, but I know I can't afford to keep doing IVF forever. Maybe this is something I'd look into.

I just hope this board can be a little more open minded and welcoming.
