2nd Trimester

I had to hold in my LOLZ

This chatty lady was yacking at me at the public pool tonight for like 15 minutes about SIDS (I'm not totally sure she knew I was pregnant. I'm not sure why she was talking about this. She pretty much gave me her whole family history actually).

Anyway, she was going on about how after her sibling died from crib death years ago, her father started drinking very heavily, and then the couple conceived another child. She then proceeded to inform me that her brother got FAS from all the drinking her dad did.

I asked what she meant.

She went on to inform me that FAS can be passed through the sperm.

I've had to force myself not to laugh at a lot of stuff. But this one was tough.

  • Oh dear gawd...first off, why do people feel the need to tell pregnant women tragic stories??  So unnecessary!  And anyone that believes that FAS is "passed through the sperm" really needs to go back to junior high health class!

  • Niiiiiiiiice.

I had a guy tell me the other day when I took a sip of my sister's wine that his friend did that and her baby had Down's now.

I informed him that Down's is a genetic disorder linked to chromosomes, and while drinking during pregnancy was not a good idea, it would most certainly not give a baby Down's.

  • drinking too much alcohol can mutate a man's sperm.  Not that far fetched of a comment...  probably not the right terminology, though.
