TTC After a Loss 6 Months+

Endo? Laparoscopy?

Got a phone call from the nurse at my OBGYN.  She said my "cancer indicators" (the CA125 blood test) were a bit high and my doctor wants to proceed with a laparoscopy.  I said okay.  She called me back in an hour and said the surgery was scheduled for Monday.  I can only chuckle at the way she tried to reassure me that it was *most likely* endometriosis....

Please share your lap. experiences!

Re: Endo? Laparoscopy?

  • I had a lap back in November. My RE removed mild end and endometriomas from my ovaries. I had 3 small incisions and the surgery took 3 hours. The first few days of recover were difficult. I pretty much just laid there...couldn't get up and down or move around much. As long as you stay on top of your pain pills, you'll be fine. You may also have the gas pain in your back and shoulders, but if you don't lay down flat, that helps. I had the procedure done on a Friday and went back to work the next Wednesday. Let me know If you have any questions!

  • Many, many T&P's. I've had a few of those nasty laparoscopies (mind you, nearly 15 years ago and on...) but with the same "cancer scare"...My last laser lap found a grapefruit sized mass...non cancerous. Incredibly scary, no fun at all...but it is good they are being cautious and sound prepared.

    Best of luck.

  • I don't have any experience but good luck, you're in my thoughts!
  • thinking of you. I had my lap in June, and had a few small adhesions, but no other issues were found. all told the procedure was fine, and my recovery was not terrible - glad to have taken a few days off though, as the first day or so was on the couch, and within a week was back to everything regularly upon clearance from doc.

  • I had my lap 7 years ago, and I second keeping up on the pain pills.  I wasn't at all prepared for the recovery end of it.  They told me  that it was such an easy procedure I'd be up and about the next day.  It took me about 5-6 days to really get comfortable again.  I was useless the first day or two.

  • I am having my 4th lap today. I had my first one back in 2000 when my endo was first found. The first time I remember being pretty sore, but the last one (in 2008) I just had trouble getting in and out of bed because my stomach was so sore. I had a little cramping and bleeding but not much. Good luck.
