Baby Shower Gift Question

Hey Ladies,

It's been forever since I've been to a baby shower so I have no idea what is an appropriate amount to spend on a gift. The girl is a close friend but not one of my closest, though I imagine we'll be alot closer once our LOs are here.

I was thinking in the $60-$75 range. I'm going to have 2 mouths to feed soon so I want to watch the budget but I also don't want to be cheap either. Is that reasonable?

We're early-30's and most of our friends are too if that makes a difference. (I would imagine younger moms with younger friends don't spend much.)

I do a few things...one $50 is typically what I tend to spend...if they are a super close friend or family member closer to $100. If she got you something for your shower I would try to stick around the same price range. So if she spend $40 on you then I would spend $40 on her.

I always aim to spend about $50 unless it is a close friend. But since I am the 1st I haven't had to go down that road yet! I say spend what feels comfortable to you both in terms of your budget and your current relationship with Mom-to-Be.

Personally, I think it should be whatever you are comfortable spending on that person not a set price. We have a tight budget, so unless it's a really close friend or family member, I probably wouldn't be able to spend that much.

I think $60-$75 is very reasonable, if not a little on the high end. I typically spend that much on baby showers, but I only ever intend to spend $50. I can't stop buying! Don't forget the cost of a card and wrapping paper or a gift bag. Those things aren't cheap and can add another $5-$10 on to the cost of the gift.

I also tend to spend on the high end, but I would say that $50-$75 is a good amount to spend if she is a close friend.

I think the other thing to consider too is what you are getting her. If it's one thing for $50, I think that would be fine. But for my close friends, I normally buy a bunch of their smaller things that nobody else wants to get (like in the $2-10 range) and put them together in a cute basket or something... so in this case, you may be able to get away with less if you don't want it to look like you're buying a dozen things. Clothes are also good because you can get some really good deals Big Smile

I would get a bunch of smaller things that they will need for the baby when it arrives. onesies and i saw a cool idea to go with the onesies that is apparently the big thing these days. They are onesie stickers and I saw them at a baby shower I was at and it was a hit. They are 1 to 12 months stickers that are placed on the babies onesie. They are very affordale and seem to be a unique gift.
