My 22 month old daughter fell on the trampoline at gym class and hasn't been able to walk on it since (about 1.5 hrs ago). It's definitely not broken and it's slightly swollen (no bruising). Do I need to go to the ER? I'm waiting for the doctor to call back.
Re: HELP...My daughter "twisted" her ankle...to the ER?
I would take her. They will xray it and know for sure. Last month my son ran into a wall (random). His wrist wasn't swollen and did not appear broken. it was broken in 2 different places. Ended up with a cast from knuckles to armpit! Hope that isn't your story also but I you need to know for sure.
GL!
How do you know it's not broken? Do you have that spiffy "Xray App" on your IPhone???
Anyway, yes, you should take her. Would you go to the ER if you couldn't walk for an extended period of time? It is very easy for a small child to break a growth plate, and yes, even a bone. And breaks don't necessarily cause swelling and/or bruising, just for the record.

DS twisted his ankle by just taking a step wrong and it was broken. He could put weight on it (he actually could walk pretty well; he just limped very slightly), there was no bruising or swelling but there was a slight fracture. He was in a cast for 3 weeks.
It's my understanding that toddlers/young kids don't sprain their ankles. It's either broken or bruised. If it was during the day, I'd just take her to the pedi but since it's not, I guess the ER is your only choice.
My orthopedist father would tell you to get it x-rayed just in case.
At this point, though, you could probably wait until morning and not deal with the ER...
Sub father for Uncle and two cousins who are orthopedist and I give you the same message. As long as LO can sleep comfortably, I would take them in tomorrow.
Oh, and don't be like my DH, who tends to get put off by the receptionist because he doesn't make it sound serious enough (he has had his knee scoped 3 times, yet despite being unable to drive or walk, he was put off for over a week by the receptionist because he makes it sound like no big deal, when I call and explain, they get him right in.)
