Hi ladies,
Anyone taking metformin for pcos during your pregnancy, how long did you take it? 2 doctors in my practice said until 12 weeks and the other 2 said until 32 weeks because it lowers the chance of GD. Anyone have experience?
My doctors feel it is unsafe after 1st tri. I am taking my last dose of it tomorrow. I have already been diagnosed with GD but they feel it is much safer to be on insulin than it is to be on met. I am going to try and control it with diet for as long as possible but I will probably end up on insulin. I was not insulin dependent (or overweight) before getting pregnant.
I know others ladies whose doctors have had them stay on it the entire pregnancy.

Lots of love and luck to my PAIF/3T/IF Veteran ladies, especially my dear friend Zookie. Congrats to Papps, Teach84 and Starbuck on their little ones.
I was on until 12 weeks. My OB said it was dangerous to be on Met past that, but there are other meds you can transition to if needed.
Personally, I demanded an early GD test, at 16 weeks so I knew what was going on. I ended up passing the 16 wk test so I took it again at 28 wks when everyone else does the test and flunked at that point. But at least I knew it was under control for much of my pregnancy.

My RE told me that I could stop the metformin at 9 weeks. My OB said he wanted me to continue to take it throughout my entire pregnancy. I was diagnosed with GD at 16 weeks. I stopped taking it at 30 weeks (my choice) because it is not known if it is safe to breastfeed while taking it. The OB made me start having appts weekly when I stopped taking it.
Re: how long on metformin for pcos during pregnancy?
After two losses, third time was a charm.

This! My RE said it has shown to help you get pregnant but no impact on staying pregnant.
I've never heard of anyone going past 12 weeks on met.
4 Fresh IVF cycles + 1 FET where embies didn't survive the thaw = 2 perfect little men!
sFET 11/9/11 - Beta 11/18 BFP!
