What the hell are these cramps about?

I've had contractions off and on for a couple weeks now.  For five straight days, they were no more than 10 minutes apart.  I've been to L&D twice with them less than 2min apart for several hours.

I've been through two labors already, but I've never experienced this low cramping and pressure.  Lightning crotch?  Been there.  I definitely know what contractions feel like.  But this is new to me.

Anyone else have it?  I feel a bit menstrual-crampy, but the pressure is more in my butt.  WTF?

    I've been feeling similar to you the last couple days off and on. I was told (since this is my first) that they would be contractions if they were strong enough that I couldn't really talk through them. Not feeling like that in the least bit, just annoying period like cramps. I was also told to just keep pumping the fluids through that its normal. Being my first, I have nothing much to compare to so I just go by my mothers wisdom of having 4 kids of her own :)

    I have had similar cramping, but my MW said it's good because it's your body's way of getting ready for the real thing. I feel like the baby is really low and like you have lots of pressure either in my butt area or between my legs. I think it depends on how her head is positioned.
