Antibiotics and being pregnant.....

Well, my sickness saga continues.  My sore throat was worse today, so my doctor wanted me on a z-pack antibiotic.  I called my OB and the pharmacy and all said it was ok to take.  Does anyone have any experience with this?  I am making myself crazy after taking it.  God, I am not usually like this!!!!

ETA: I am not questioning taking this, as I already took it as prescribed.

  • I've taken z-pack before, not pg though. It knocks whatever you have out like a light! And fast. If I remember right, I did feel a little nauseous with it. You might find it helpful to eat a little something with it, or take it with some milk. You'll be fine. No worries! Especially if all 3 said it was ok. Hope you fell better soon!

  • Why would you not believe 2 doctors and a pharmacist?  Believing internet people over people who went to school in their field is crazy, not taking prescribed medications as directed.

No sense in being miserabley sick pregnant if you don't have to be. Esp. if 2 drs. and a pharmacist say it's fine. You and baby will both be better off.

  • I took a z-pack around 8 weeks for a sinus infection. I'm fine, my baby appeared fine at our NT scan last week and our results were good. Zithromax is a class B drug, which means it is considered safe for your baby. But being really sick might not be safe, for you or your baby. So take it.

If you re-read my post, I was not asking for medical advice.  I took the medicine as prescribed, but wanted to hear that other people have taken it also.  Being pregnant is a new experience for a lot of us, and I think that fears are rational.  It always helps to hear that other people have been in your situation to put your mind at ease.  You don't always get that personal experience with a doctor's office.

  • EAT YOGURT! I had to take antibiotics for a UTI and I ended up getting a yeast infection a week later. Antibiotics kill all the good bacteria in your vag.
