How to pick a pediatrician? Help?

I need some help on this one. When do you pick a pediatrician? Should I start doing this now? Did you actually go "interview" different doctors??

Any recommendations or advice would be greatly appreciated, I feel kinda lost on this one!?

Thanks ladies!!?

Re: How to pick a pediatrician? Help?

  • We used references from friends and this board.  I never interviewed anyone.

We really like the practice we take Payton to:  Woodinville Pediatrics.

If you click on the provider link, it'll take you to a page with all of the doctors and nurse practioners and a little bio about each. Our Ped is Susan Bilger.  We've also seen Dr Johnson (totally a hottie!) as well as Dr. Nakaharah.  They are all terrific doctors.

FWIW - I called the practice about a month prior to birth and told them who I wanted (to make sure she was taking new clients), they noted it and wished me luck.  Evergreen asks who your kids' provider will be and all you have to do is write down "Woodinville Peds".  After their birth, the hospital alerts WP that your babies have arrived and they send the Pediatrician on-call to come and examine them.  :)

  • Ahhh, perfect! Thanks for telling me how it works. I will check them out since they are close to us.?

    Thanks Kim, you're the best!!?

  • We went on a recommendation from friends and my doctor actually asked me who we wanted I think at my last appointment before having our son. It was pretty easy.
  • Angie - I had the same exact question!!! Thanks for the reminder that our little boys need doctors!
  • I wanted to stay at the same clinic DH and I go to for our internist (Virginia Mason, Fed Way), which is also where my OB is....so I asked my OB who she liked best (she's a mom too, my OB) and then went down there and read the gal's bio (she seems pretty good).

And that's who I told them my OB will be :)

  • I'm sure where you live, but I second Woodinville Peds and Dr. Bilger.  I just took my recs from this board and my friends. Only issue I have is the parking. It sucks and stresses me out (especially lugging 25lbs of baby and carrier while the lot is full of Suburbans carrying one kid) so much that someday I might lose it and look for a new doctor.
  • Like the pp's said, I have heard great things about Woodinville Peds.  I chose Pediatric Associates (Totem Lake office) because it's closer to us.  I also like that they are open 365 days a year (the Bellevue office if open on weekends/holidays) and have a 24 hour nurse line.  We intereviewed a pedi before Mattie was born, based on recommendations on here and from friends.  We chose someone and saw her a few times after he was born, but we recently switched to a different doc there because we LOVE her.  I've seen several of the doctors at that location and I really like ours (Dr. Holly Ginsberg.  Good luck!

BTW, since I delivered at Swedish, but our pedi is on the east side, the on-call pedi at Swedish saw Mattie while we were there, then I took him in to Ped Assoc a couple days after we got home.  Not sure where you are delivering.  If its Overlake or Evergreen, Pediatric Assoc pedi's will see the baby in the hospital.

  • We interviewed two doctors and ended up with the second one. I got recs from here and also family and friends. We use Dr. Celia Dastvan at Providence Mill Creek and love her so far!
