Prenatal Vitamins

What prenatal vitamins do yall recommend? Or what should I look for when choosing them?

Re: Prenatal Vitamins

  • I would talk to your OB about. Some OBs are okay with you taking OTC and some aren't. I know several ladies who have OBs that were okay with the Target brand. Mine wanted me take the prescription ones and I didn't really question it so just took those until I was done breastfeeding month (she switched me to the generics when DD was 6 months old).

  • I've always used Target brand prenatal vitamins. They're cheap and I've had no problems.

I agree - talk to your OB about it. Mine gave me samples of some prescription vitamins but she was fine with me taking the Target brand.

  • mine prescribed the prescription ones when I told her I was taking target ones, but I continued to take the target ones anyway and didn't bother to tell her. In addition I took extra omega 3s and folic acid.  The ones she prescribed had extra added colors and preservatives that the target ones don't have, and I didn't need the stool softener that it contained. Not to mention the fact that they were CRAZY expensive.

  • Talk to your OB. Mine didn't care which brand just as long as I took them.
  • Target brand.  There was another kind I was taking (Nature's something...can't remember) and they smelled and tasted horrible.  The Target ones were fine for me and way cheaper than the Women's One A Day.
  • I take the One-A-Day prenatals.

  • I take One A Day also..... I have the kind that comes with two tablets - a gel and a "regular" tablet. I like them a lot  (or as much as you can like a prenatal vitamin! .... I can't quite see their results!!) ..... but as long as I eat WITH them, I feel fine. I took them yesterday without food and felt queasy!!
  • I take a prescrition (CitraNatal Assure), my doctor prefers me to take a prescription. They are only $2 a month with my insurance plan. If you take OTC, make sure they have DHA and omega-3 or that you take an additional supplement for these.

Same doc, but she didn't mind that I was taking non-rx vitamins. I've been taking the Rainbowlight Prenatals, extra folic acid and a DHA capsule. When I had my first appt, ahe asked what I had been taking since TTC, and just asked that I bring in the bottles to make sure they had everything she wanted me to take.
