Trouble TTC

HSG Question

Did you work on the day of your HSG? Or return to work afterward, really...

Mine is scheduled for 8:50am. Do you think I'll be able to go back to work afterward?

I know it's a bit different for everyone...just trying to get an idea.

Thank you!!

Re: HSG Question

  • I took the day off for my HSG. I wasn't in a lot of pain, but then again, the radiologist was not able to do a whole lot. Mine was like a really long pap.

However, since we got disappointing news, I was glad to have the day off from that standpoint.

  • Like you said, everybody is different.

I have the option of working from home one day a week, so I changed my day to the day of my HSG. I did work after, but not a full day (well, I normally work more than 8 hours). I wasn't in a lot of pain, but I still had some uncomfortable cramping. I had been told by a friend I work with that her former boss had one and ended up not feeling like coming back into the office.

So, able to go back to work? Yeah, probably. Would I have felt like going back into the office? Not really. I felt much better being home in comfy clothes.

  • I took the day off just in case and told my boss if I felt ok I would be in. I had a bad experience though and a lot of other ladies here have not. I started bleeding and cramping pretty bad but because of my PCOS they think it just induced my cycle which are never fun so not sure if it was the HSG or AF?

Let us know how it went! Good Luck!

  • Hi love!

I would have been able to go back to work right afterward if I had wanted, I think. I'll admit, though, that it was kind of nice to come home and hang out on the couch. :)

  • I didn't work---but only because I was off that day anyway.  I could have been able to go back to work if I worked though.  I wasn't in any pain after----it was only during the procedure that it was a little painful.  It might be a good idea to take off though just in case---everyone is different. It's always nice to know that you can go home and relax on the couch no matter what happens or how you feel.  GL tomorrow!

  • I went back to work after mine...but then mine went pretty smoothly compared to others I've read about. To be safe, you might want to leave things up in the air so that if you're not feeling up to it, you're all set to go home and rest up.

  • I really wish I had taken the day off, I was very uncomfortable (walking funny) and bloated. I ended up leaving work early. I thought the HSG was worse than I had expected.

I might also suggest you consider taking more than the 2 advil recommended (if you are sensitive), I wish I had taken 4. Of course this is a very individual thing and I am not a doctor- but a lot of other ladies on here seemed to agree.

I felt fine by the next day.

  • I worked before both of mine (couple of hours) and went home afterwards. GL!

  • I worked from home that day, but I have a pretty flexible work schedule, and as long as I keep up with my emails I'm good. I'm glad I didn't plan to go to work since my HSG experience was not great. I felt dizzy for a short time afterwards (thank goodness my husband was there to drive me home). I also had bleeding and bad cramps the rest of the day so I was glad I could lay down in bed nestled up next to my Blackberry. Most people don't have as bad of an experience though.

  • I prepared my boss by saying I had a minor out-patient and I may or may not be in.

My RE prescribed a light  dosage valium so DH had to drive me and I went in for  a 1/2 day after the valium wore off.  I was fine at work for in my chair for  the rest of the day.

Mine went really quick, appnt was at 8 and I was back in the cay by 8:15.  GL, love!

  • I was fine to return to work right after the HSG.  You're right - everyone is different!  Mine was very painful during (but only for like 15 seconds) and afterward I was totally fine.  Good luck!

  • I had all intentions on returning to work after my HSG, but I was just sick to my stomach afterwards.  My HSG was pretty painful and I had a lot of cramping after.  So I went home.

  • I didn't go back to work - but I totally could have.  It was really nothing for me - I had some cramping - but no worse than menstrual cramps.   But one of the reasons that I took the entire day off was just in case I got bad news - I would have never wanted to go to work all upset.

  • The only pain I felt was when my Doctor was manipulating my cervix since I have a retroverted uterus. I thought the actual HSG was not all that bad. I actually had a Christmas party to go to that night and felt fine. Could you take the time off just in case, then make the decision afterwards?

  • Thank you, thank you for all the responses!

I ended up taking the whole day off...I figure I can always go in if I feel like it.

    Thanks again girls!!

  • Mine was at 4pm so I didn't worry about work. However, make sure you take some advil and some comfortable pants. It is like a long pap and it was painful for me when they inflated the balloon but after it wasn't necessarily horrible just uncomfortable. Everyone is indeed different. Good Luck
