Well, obviously what one kid likes isn't necessarily what another kid likes...but Ella did well with bananas, apples (though I never made applesauce at home - the store-bought no-sugar stuff is fine), sweet potato, chicken.
I made all of J's food, including meats. I''m pressed for time tonight but def feel free to page me too, and I'll be happy to help. If you have a food processor I don't think anything is off limits! Makes it so easy.
I also used wholesomebabyfood.com a lot. The only food that we didn't have success on was frozen green beans--I didn't blame Maya at all, the texture was really gross. She liked all fruits and most veggies that we tried with sweet potatoes, carrots and different squashes being her favorite.
My DH is the cook in our family and took great pride in making M's baby food. We probably used about 50/50 of homemade and store bought. We bought the book First Meals by Annabel Karmel. It was really good because it had different sections with recipes and recommendations for different ages. We still use it to make fun "toddler" food for M. He made lots of squash, green beans, peas, peaches, carrots, sweet potatoes, apples, pears, kale, blueberries (very messy!), meats, and pastas once she was ready for some texture. Lots of the fruit had yogurt added to it as well.
I asked him if he could give any advice and he says to add baby cereal to thicken, and make them taste good to you by adding a little seasoning. He baked or steamed most of it depending on what he was making to not lose any nutrients or taste. Then he used a food processor and put it into ice cube trays overnight. After they were frozen, we'd put the cubes in a freezer bag and label. No fancy contraptions needed.

Ditto this. The only green beans we had success with were my MIL's canned fresh from the garden beans. If you know anyone who gardens, I highly recommend asking them for donations!

It was fun and enjoyed doing it but the jars were probably just as good. Jake wasn't much into purees either so we didn't do them more than 2 months.
