Mine has one can of soup in it - but it's not really a "traditional" sloppy joe. It's probably not what you're looking for, but I'll share just in case:
2 lbs ground beef, browned
1 onion, chopped
1/2 cup ketchup
1 TB mustard
1 can of chicken gumbo soup
salt and pepper to taste
I cook it in the crock pot for 5 or 6 hours on low, but you could probably do it on the stove if you wanted.

I actually think this is a pretty common one. My mom makes it this way and my MIL makes it the same way. They both make it on the stove.
This one doesn't use soup, but this is the one we use and love!
1/2 pound ground beef
1/2 cup ketchup
2 tablespoons water
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon prepared mustard
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 hamburger buns, split
Directions
In a saucepan, cook beef over medium heat until no longer pink; drain. Stir in the ketchup, water, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, garlic powder, onion powder and salt. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 30-40 minutes. Serve on buns. 2 servings

My grandma makes it this way, but this is the first time I've heard of others who do, though I'm sure she had to have found it somehwere I'm not a huge fan of tomato-y sloppy joes, so I love this one!
