Hi there.
Just wondering if anyone had used a postpartum support girdle. I am an avid exercise enthusiast, but would like to have some support post baby when I have to take time off from fitness. I really want to purchase one and would invest in a really good one, just looking for suggestions or would like to hear from those who have used these. What brand did you use?
I have been looking at the Bellefit, Grace Girdle by Loveland, and the Gabrialla Post Partum girdle. I am also wondering if I would need a girdle with legs (for hip compression) or would just the pull on girdle suffice?
I was also looking into exercise programs that target post partum body issues. I had researched and found the 321 Baby Buldge Be Gone by Ramona Braganza. Wondering if there is any substance/truth to this program as it is pretty pricey. I have been successful pre-preg at designing my own workouts and have maintained them throughout my pregnancy (7.5 months), but this being my first baby- I'm clueless about what fitness regimens work best post baby
I would love to get some feedback from other fitness mamas out there and would really appreciate your input! Thanks again and hope everyone is doing well!
Re: Postpartum girdle?
Antonia,
I have heard about the girldles, but wouldn't know which one, though I am planning to try one out after I have baby. You said you designed your own pre-preg workouts. I too, am trying to keep in good shape, pre-baby and of course preggers too. Would love to hear more about your workouts. I usually do short intervals of running, elliptical, some pilates (planks too) and a little bit of weights. My mom was a huge swimmer, did all kinds of classes/laps etc while she was pregnant, and she swears by that for keeping in shape.
Cheers!
Hey there!
Well, pre-preg I did a lot of cardio (elliptical and treadmill w/ high incline intervals) and abs w/ light weights just to keep shape. The doc said I could do what I did (minus my ab workouts) pre- preg just at a lower intensity (do not get heart rate up over 138). She said I could do this up until I felt like I couldn't since it was normal routine for my body. I wish I could run, but I danced growing up and my knees have never allowed it! I too do elliptical- that's the only cardio I am getting right now w/ light weights for arms and squats with a ball for my bum. So far, at 31 weeks, I am still able to get in those workouts usually 5 days a week. I wouldn't feel normal if I didn't, and on the days I don't- I feel just terrible!
I have heard awesome things about pre-natal yoga as well, but I have failed numerous times- I do not seem to have the attention span for it! lol... I am too high strung I suppose- I need to exert my energy at a more fast pace. My doctor said swimming was awesome, as well as the elliptical machine because they are easier on your joints (since they are more squishy right now).
I would love to hear some of your fitness suggestions too! One thing I've been confused about (from about 5 months on) are my abs. I haven't been doing anything for them and I am clueless- I feel like I've given up on them in a way. I know they still in there, so I probably need to tend to them as well, I just have no clue. Any ideas you're doing or have heard about?
Also, I forgot to mention early in my pregnancy, I wore a prenatal cradle mini just for some extra belly support. Then, at about month 6 when my belly really started to pop a little more, I have used the Gabrialla strong support belt and can't say enough good things about it. It is wonderful if you plan on doing cardio later on. I don't know how far along you are and I'm sure you already know about that stuff- but I just thought I would share! lol.
Hope you are doing well
Antonia,
So funny you mention the yoga. I am the same... just don't have the patience. I feel like if I am going to be working out I need to be at least huffing and puffing a little. Also, I used to dance too, also have been noticing that my knees hurt a little more when I run.
For abs.. I stopped doing situps and am doing planks, where you are up on your elbows and toes, pulling in stomach and clenching your gluts. Seems to working better than situps. Not sure what I am going to do once I am preggo and can't be on my tummy. My brother is a workout guru, and he mentioned a HIT (high interval training) sounds like what you do on the elliptical. I am trying this out by doing a walk/jog interval on the treadmill.
Thanks for the insight on the baby cradle/support belt. I am new to all of this. so please share any info you have on preserving the tummy
Have a good day.
