I know a lot of people do well at drugstores, but I've never gotten into it. Can you tell me about it? What do you usually get? Do you end up with stuff you don't need/use in order to get a good/free deal? How do you find all the deals/match-ups?
Thanks!
Re: Coupon Girls: Drugstores??
I wish I knew the secret. My friend cleans house at the drug stores. Like, she walks away with free stuff ALL the time. I'm not exaggerating when I say she has a minimum of 30 bankers boxes full of products she has gotten. I went with her a few times and I still can't figure it out. It really is a science. You have to check out a certain way, use coupons in a certain order, and do multiple transactions.
I have tried it a few times and have done ok, but it takes time and a lot of practice! I just have not had the patience. She said it took her a while to get the hang of it and it took a few months of really hitting it hard before she figured it all out and got good at it.
All of the major stores have rewards programs, but I like CVS the best. They give "Extra Care Bucks" which are register coupons to use on a future purchase. (I think Rite Aid and Walgreens do something similar, but I don't have time these days to shop them all). Often times, an item will be on sale, say for $4.99, then you'll get $4.99 back in ECB's, making it "free." If you have a manuf. coupon for that item, then you'll make money on it. The ECB's you earn on an item are just dollars off your next purchase coupons--they can be used on anything.
If you're getting ECB's back on an item, or items, you can ring just those up in one transaction, then use the ECB's that you earned to ring up the rest of your items in a second transaction.
You do need to shop the circular to map out a game plan in using these, but I have saved big in the past. I've gotten great deals (including lots for free) on toiletries, makeup, cleaning/laundry products, diapers, etc. I used to not even buy anything at drug stores because their regular prices are notoriously much higher than other places.
You also earn ECB's for things like prescriptions, etc. So make sure to always use your CVS card on those purchases too.
HTH!
southernsavers.com is your friend.
At the bottom of her CVS posts (Thursdays, I believe) she posts "getting started" scenarios. The key is to stack your manufacturer's coupons w/ ECBs, then to roll your ECBs from one week to another. It really is a science.
I go and get everything and anything I can. I can't remember who I said it to, but this is how we donate stuff. I take the time and (some) money to go do the shopping, but donate the physical goods to area shelters, the YWCA, and food banks. I do this with grocery couponing too.
I can't remember the last time I paid for razors, toothbrushes, toothpaste, shaving cream... the list goes on.
At CVS, get one of the green bag tags too. Every time you shop, bring a reusable bag. Every 4th scan of your green bag tag=$1 ECB.
