Being the sober one stinks

I went out with all of my cousins last night for dinner, and everyone had drinks. I was the only sober one. Then we all went to my cousin's house, and they drank some more. I stayed for 30 minutes, then went home because I was so tired. In their drunken stupors, they called me a lightweight for going home, but I laughed it off. The joke is on them though, at least I don't have a hangover this morning. lol.

OMG, I know! We went out Friday night with DHs cousins and for awhile I was just sitting there with my water - fun!? Then thankfully my SIL came up and she's 19W so at least I wasn't alone in the water club.

I've gotten used to the not drinking thing, but the hardest part is wanting to hang out as long as everyone else. I got very emo about it on Christmas and bawled the whole way home from his parents at 11:30pm. Other people just don't understand that when you're not drinking, shouldn't have caffeine, etc. AND are growing a human being that you get more tired than usual and don't want to hang out until the bar closes.

I'm OK being the sober one...until everyone gets drunk. Then, I listen to my friends tell me how sorry they feel for me that I can't drink. Seriously?! I just smile and say I'm happy to be pregnant, but it's super annoying. I've been antisocial lately because I'm tired of being the pregnant girl everyone feels bad for.

You guys are making me laugh. Glad I'm not the only one. They were at least amusing drunks. We were talking about old times, and just laughing. Nothing too obnoxious. I guess everyone left at 3:30 AM, and they are all dragging @ss today at work. lol.

I went to a grad party in North Chicago, which is about an hr from where we live, for a friend who lives out of state and of course it was at a bar (it was pregnancy friendly. there's a no smoking law in Chicago) and everyone was getting piss drunk while I sipped Shirley Temples. Well, a couple hrs into it, the dj came in and changed the music to loud club-like music, which almost brought me to tears. I was so tired, my back was hurting, and I was quickly losing tolerance for everyone. I had to leave immediately. So I walked H out and drove us home. It was nice to see everyone since we all live in different states, but I swear if I had stayed just one more hour there, I would've been the crazy pregnant woman trying to get into fistfights with strangers, lol.

I hear you. On new years eve DH and I went to his friends house I didn't know anyone and offered to stay the night at the in laws house so DH could have fun and not worry about me. He made me go and DH got trashed threw up twice and I did not feel bad for him at all. Not only was I the only sober one but I didn't know anyone and I had to take care of DH...

I agree. I get tired and bored just as everyone else is getting a good buzz. I am ready to go home, not jump to the next bar.

Agreed. On friday, my girlfriends and I went to see Black Swan and then everyone was going out for drinks after. I had to decline. It was 9pm after all and I was exhausted. Also, it is no fun to watch people drink when I can't participate. I hate it in fact.

The worst is when everyone assumes you're happy to be a designated driver!!! Sure, I'll be the DD, but I'm leaving at 9:30 to go home and sleep. Good luck getting your drink on by then, suckers! Big Smile

I really like being the sober one - it is crazy to me what questions people will answer and stories they will tell while drunk. I've exjoyed the trips through the past with them!
