Before I went back to work I nursed her most of the time but always pumped at least once a day (sometimes more depending on the day). My DH then used the pumped milk to feed her at least 1 meal a day (usually in the early morning, like 5am) so I could have a break and get a chunk of sleep. She started taking a bottle at least once a day at 2 weeks old. Now I am back at work and she gets a bottle almost all the time. I'm still pumping and we haven't switched to formula yet because I was able to build up a nice freezer stash over the past few months.
DD is 6 mos and has only had breastmilk to drink. I'll be the first to admit that I was never certain that I'd continue quite this long but I think it's important to continue with breastmilk at least part of the time for as long as possible (the health benefits are so good). We may start doing a combo of breastmilk and formula soon because my supply is starting to get a little smaller than it used to be.
Due to latch issues I pump for my DS. I was not producing enough during a growth spurt so I had to use formula which happened to occur at night. When I was able to start producing enough to meet his needs and went back to BM he didn't sleep nearly as well as he did when he had formula. I am sooo tempted to go back to formula for one bottle at night as I sit here awake with DS right now.......
