Does anyone have any experience with either of these as daycare/school for infant & toddler age? We live very close to both and I just wanted to see what peoples thoughts were...
My son has attended both. He was at Creme de la Creme in downtown as an infant for a couple months while we waited for his other school to start (a daycare in West U). I liked it alot. It was very very clean, well run, and methodical. They have a ton to offer toddlers as far as creativity and lesson plans. You can't go wrong with it, in my book.
That being said, my son started at MDUMC's School for Little People last October and I have LOVED it! I made the switch because of the reputation of the church and the preschool program. That, and we are moving to Memorial in a few months and I work out here. My son adapted so well and all the teachers love him to bits! He gets huge hugs every morning when he shows up and hugs when he leaves every night. Every morning his class has super fun educational activities lined up for the kids. Today, they turned the entire classroom into a "Polar Bear Cave" and had "snow" (cotton balls) all over it. All the kids were in it growling like polar bears and having snow fights. The teachers gush over him and tell me the same funny stories about things he does and stuff he says that I tell other people, so I know they're listening to him and paying attention. Also, the school has a great music program and a movements class, which is an indoor gymnastics type class that comes with your tuition. You can also enroll your toddler in a Tumbling class that takes place every Thursday afternoon. It is much like Little Gym. Joe loves it!
Oh, and if you're religious, they have chapel every Monday and Friday and my son comes home and tells me the bible stories. I love that.
MGR! My brother just took his fiancee's job at MDUMC. I'm not clear if he's working with the childrens dept. like for Sundays only or all week. If I tell you he's rediculously tall, like almost 7 feet and HUGE build, maybe you'd know if you've seen him. he LOVES kids. He wants to go back to school and has been batting around the idea to become a youth director (or fireman...hmmm... what a relation huh?)
We sent our first through Creme downtown for three years, and our second is there now. It is a well run organization from my experiences.
One benefit to Creme is that they follow a work calendar. I'm not sure if this is true of your other choice or how flexible your work schedule is. For us, having daycare available without interruption for holidays we don't share with schools was very important.
Now that we have one in PK3 at a traditional school with a traditional school calendar, we have to use vacation to cover Spring Break and Christmas vacations. It is just more challenging to schedule around this.
I used to work at creme de la creme by town and country. Its extremely organized and clean. It's a really good place for a child to go if you were to choose a facility to watch your child. It's not like any other day care where they play all day and barely learn. They actually have the children learn through out the day. I loved working there. I wish I could of gone back.
Our daughter attends MDUMC and we could not be happier. We wanted into MDUMC so bad that my poor husband was there at 4AM on the day of registration just so we could get her one of the few spots (he was already #11 in line at that hour!). It worked and she's been in the program since August. The staff is top-notch and the Director of the School runs a tight ship. There is very little (if any!) turnover with the teachers and the amount of stuff our daughter is learning just amazes us. I just cannot say enough good things about it.
Only negative is the number of days they close. It's more than other schools (in my experience) which means I end up taking more vacation days, but it's still worth it.
From my experience, it's very hard to get into the school (we were on the wait list for a year before our 4AM get-in-line experience a year ago). There is almost always a wait list. MGR was VERY lucky in that she got in pretty effortlessly, but it's not generally like that. I like to think that says a lot about how great the school is!
