Ok ladies... Charlie's nearly 15 months old and I know the pedi will read me the riot act because he still drinks his milk out of a bottle, not a sippy or regular cup.
He gets a 6 oz bottle of milk three times a day---right before his morning nap, before his afternoon nap and at bedtime. So all three are associated with sleepy time--laying in the dark room with his blanket, a book and his bottle. I may have set him up for trouble!
He does sorta get the straw sippies.. he takes a little bit of juice or water out of them during the day, but not very much at all.. maybe an ounce or two total. Doesn't get regular sippy cups at all.. just plays with them.
So.. my question.. should I just go cold turkey and give him a straw sippy instead of the bottle for his sleepy time? Tried it just now and he drank a little of it but wasn't happy at all. (He was really tired tho and went right to sleep anyway.)
Any other tactics that might work? Thanks!
Re: Breaking the bottle habit?
Since he's not using a sippy cup for milk, I would start by introducing that to him and take away one of the bottles...maybe the morning nap one. Then when he's comfortable with the milk out of a sippy take away another bottle and then completely eliminate bottle drinking.
Our pediatrician told us definitely by 18 months, so I took away the last bottle (after afternoon nap) just before the new year. Fiona was completely comfortable drinking milk out of the sippy cup, I think the bottle was a comfort to her when she woke up from her nap. She still has been asking for her "baba" but I hand her the cup instead and so far no problems.
You might try switching him to something like a Munchkin sippy - that's what we used to transition and it went really well. I think because they still have to suck to get liquid out so its more like a bottle, but looks like a sippy cup. T has really small hands and she can still hold this one no problem. The other nice thing is that if they turn them upside down or shake them, they don't spill. And they are bpa free. We got ours at Target, but Amazon sells them too if you don't have a Target near you. Here's a link:

That sounds good... and I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one with a toddler who is/was still on the bottle.
Pedi's been wanting me to get him off of it since he was 9 months old.. I thought that was a bit early. He couldn't even hold the cup back then.
I have that Munchkin cup and Adrian loves to drink water or juice out of it. But he still drinks milk 3 times a day from his Dr Brown bottles. I tried giving him milk out of other bottles or cups but he doesn't take it. I don't care too much, I was drinking milk out of a bottle until I was 2 yrs old and I never needed orthodontic work. Not to say it's the best thing to do, but I'm not planning on taking A's bottle away anytime soon. He'll only be a baby once
I have tried & to be honest it is my fault Sienna is still drinking milk fromthe bottle. I have like 4 different sippy cups. The last one I bought I swore would be her milk cup & I thought she'd take to it, especially since Minnie is on it. Well she'd only drink about 3 of the 5 oz each time. Then I'd pour the rest into her bottle & she'd down it. Bad habit. She drinks water no problem from her sippy.
Her pedi appt is next week so I guess I'm gonna hear it too. OK I vow to start giving her the sippy again for milk tommorrow.
Aaron refuses to drink milk from sippies?and I've tried around 4 different ones. And since he wouldn't hold the bottle, I just stopped giving him milk. I asked my pedi and was assured he was getting the calcium and vitamin d from yogurt and his mac & cheese.
He likes the taste of milk, he just won't drink it from a cup.
I'm not going back to bottles so he'll either drink it eventually or he won't.
